You don't take a coach off a list if they lose a game...if Jimbo does not win the title is he off the list? John's team went 8-8 this season and missed the playoffs..he's still high on everyone's list. I get it, people hate Briles for the coaches poll thing, but the guy has beat Texas 3 out of 4 years, he is a damn good recruiter, and he understands football. I am high on him, I also like Strong more than others as well, guess I'm not part of the popular crew..

Lobo I am with You 100%. That list works for me. In fact I will take any on that list. Want Saban, but any on that list will be a Home Run. My personal fav is Jon Gruden
So if he loses a BCS bowl game he should be taken off the list? That makes zero sense.
Briles, in my opinion, is the single best choice for the job. I've interacted with him a number of times. I've never gotten the impression that he was disingenuous or slimy. He was always professional and treated the people around us at the time with respect.
If seen his staff recruit and they do things the right way. I would send any of my three boys to play for him without a second thought.

I like Briles and think he has done an amazing job at Baylor...

Think Briles, although a very good coach, will give Texas the finger. Don't think he would truly consider Texas because feel that he wants to see the legacy through that he is creating at Baylor. It is his "new" stadium on the Brazos. Also, do not think he is that motivated by the money and do not believe that he wants all the distractions and extra responsibilities that go along with the HC position at Texas.
Briles, for whatever reason, does not field good defenses. Defense wins championships.
Baylor's defense is a joke, and Briles has been there long enough that the buck stops with him. I certainly hope that
Patterson gets good advice. Briles coaches the most penalized team in the country, and with 10 minutes left in the game,
his team is down 14. 35 points isn't enough to cover that defense. Sheesh!

I think people like Briles because his offense is very entertaining to watch. Heck I even enjoy watching it, but I don't think he brings enough to the table. (Defense)
