Its a double edged sword. Here is my take:
I dont condemn anyone for wanting Texas to win. I know how badly damaging for the Texas program the OU win this year could potentially be, and I still enjoyed it. Whether you bleed it, attended it, or married into it, being a Longhorn is a life long commitment. Most of the things I have today is because the University of Texas educated my future wife and put her in a position to succeed.
That said, I dont condemn anyone who wants this over by any defeat necessary. It is very clear Joe Jamail, Red McCombs, and Bill Powers do not give a damn about the product on the field. They are not "bosses" to Brown, they are his friends, and as long as the money keeps rolling in the on field product doesnt mean much. The "get it over" crowd is 100% right in the assertion that the "Want to win" crowd keeps this program in the laughing stock area because they blindly feed the money machine while talking change.
On a side tangent: I'm just a content guy, not an owner or an insider, but its long been my concern this season, and Mack Brown, would tear Longhorn Nation apart, and I think one only has to briefly scan the landscape to see it is happening. Take a trip to wherever and you will find it, and its only going to get worse and worse the longer Brown stays. This boards membership has, for the most part, not set to destroy itself over this, and I hope it stays that way.
We may have to endure another year, we may not, but lets not lose sight of the fact we all want what is best for Texas, even if we don't agree how to get there.
