Am I the only one that doesn't want Briles?

Briles' teams have a distinct lack of discipline. Being the most penalized team in the country is not a badge of honor. It killed them against UCF. Discipline is what defense is all about, much moreso than offense. A team can score lots of points without a lot of discipline and attention to detail. Receivers running all over the field in different directions will create confusion among an undisciplined defense. . . . . . . . Don't want any part of it.
On one hand. . .without RGIII . .Briles actually has Baylor playing better. . .he has recruited more defensive 4 stars than offensive (by 1) . .

But at the end of the day. .he wilted in prime time vs both UCF and OSU. .frankly if TEXAS had decent QB play. . .we win the conference this year but stop me if you've heard a similar story from the Horns. . .

Purely my cheap seats view but I want a coach who coaches a "path to the Natty". . .as you stated. . .leading the nation in penalties and being out coached in big games is not that path. . .

You can't ever foresee Texas running a spread offense?
Uhh... Really? Didn't we win a national championship running the spread offense?
He must have missed 2004-2009

I say no to Briles

I agree. Age a factor, although not a rule out factor. Gimmick offense that fails against good defenses. Didn't have his team ready to play in the biggest game for Baylor in 20+ years. Out coached in bigger games, including last night. Most penalized team shows lack of discipline. Fun to watch offense, high scoring is great to watch. But, no reason to think he can, year in and year out, make a Texas a big winner. Baylor may be satisfied with their seasons the last few years. If those kind of results satisfy UT fans, we should have kept Mack B. We can be 8-5, 9-4, and such again soon. But, that isn't the goal, is it? Hook 'em!

In what ended up as their two biggest games of the year, both outside of Waco, the team completely wet its pants.

Briles has devote all his energy towards scoring points that leaves things like defense and disciplined football neglected.

This is an an attitude problem. His teams have given up over 40 PPG in bowl games. They're just not ready to go.

My biggest concern is the lack of discipline on the Baylor team. That is coaching. There is no reason for a team to have as many infractions as the Baylor team does. I pass.

give me briles and robinson as dc...i repeat robinson..we gave up one yes one td to the ducks...briles offense yes the spread which oh by the way we won a nc with...every texas highschool is running some form of it.its good for recruiting and for all you saban nuts..its fact his d has alot of trouble with the spread and every big 12 team runs it..yes saban would be my first choice but its not happening never was..briles is the man for texas..

Briles' offensive scheme is not like Leach's.

It's much more balanced and they actually have a vertical passing threat unlike Leach's Tech offenses of old.

Any comparison of Briles to Leach is a lazy one.

If you want Briles, then move up the road to Waco. Please do not bring him to TEXAS!

I don't know that his age is necessarily a problem, and to say "he's getting close to retirement" is simply idle speculation, certainly not a statement of fact, even though it sounded like it (assuming you don't actually have direct insight into his thoughts).

Having said that, what has concerned me is the fact that his team has played very erratically (both O and D) three straight games. Yes, they whipped us, but with the weather and Case at the helm, our O' was doomed (further evidence vs oregon). But, by and large, combined with the excessive number of penalties that have plagued them all year, BU doesn't look like any kind of fine-tuned machine

We were running pro at the time.
Texas was running the spread..Vince was in shotgun most plays and running zone read. It wasn't as advance as the spread as you see now, but it was the spread. Also Texas made it back vs Bama in the spread.

Most people I think would take Briles over Mack Brown. But most people have him further down the list than the talking heads do. I only want him if about 8 or 9 others say no... Which won't happen. In my opinion a Briles hire is settling for the next Mackovic.

Briles burned his bridge with me when he voted OU #1 and Texas #5 in 2008. From a coaching standpoint he reminds me of a Mackovic hire; flashes of brilliance but no consistent product based on a neglected defense; and what works at UofH and BU may not translate at all to UT. That's a chance with any coach but we got rid of Mack and would not be upgrading with Briles. Do. Not. Want.

That's what scares me about the spread, you can train your defense so much, but when your defense is out on the field 80-90% of the time, they're going to be physically exhausted. It can work with great depth, but I'm weary when it comes to offenses that can score like lightning.

Sorry, we were running pro for a while there. During the time of VY it was a zone read and Colt was a spread.

I apologize for getting my offensive styles confused.

But as you can see we base our offenses around a couple of star QBs, and heavily relying on them to win for us.
