I see that it's out on some other sites, so I thought I'd update you guys on the status of the Nacogdoches corner and TCU commit. We've been in contact with Thompson for most of the week regarding his visit to Texas for the Under The Lights camp. In fact, we've known about this since Daniel Seahorn talked to Josh at the Opening in Oregon, but we were asked to keep things quiet. I wrote earlier this week that Josh was unsure if he would make it or not, when in reality he was trying to keep the visit quiet. We have been beaten to the punch multiple times on these things, but we are always going to err in favor of doing right by the kid we are reporting on. I was told by some people close to Thompson earlier this week that we were the only site that has kept our word on that. This is not an attempt to throw shade at other sites, as I'm quite friendly with writers from around the industry (EJ Holland and Justin Wells in particular). Those guys do great work and I consider both as friends and mentors of some sort. Bottom line is Thompson will be coming in, and I expect him to get an offer.
Thompson is currently committed to TCU, and he's firm in his commitment to the Frogs. There are a couple of things weighing in here though.
1) When I first started talking to Thompson he told me that Texas was his absolute dream offer. This was some time ago, but if true those things usually don't fade.
2) One of Thompson's best friends is Brandon Jones, and if he gets involved here Texas has a huge factor in their corner.
3) Thompson trains with Kobe Boyce, and the two are very close as well. They've talked about playing together at the next level, and Boyce is firmly committed to Texas from what he told me.
While those things look good, don't assume this is an open and shut case. Thompson loves TCU and he's grown close with the players and coaches there. If Texas offers I expect them to eventually land him, but it will be a battle. We'll keep you updated on things as we have an extremely good relationship not only with Thompson, but his trainer as well.
