SignUp Now!I'll ask Lotus Horn.Where does Jerry Gray end up now that the Titans have canned their head coach?
He's also close to Gray.LotusHorn knew what was going on because he is close friends with Vance Bedford. Been friends since they were in college.
Unless he wants to be our DB coach it won't be here. Strong is a much better fit to run our defense.Where does Jerry Gray end up now that the Titans have canned their head coach?
I like Klemm. He's also an excellent recruiter.I'd take Bostad, Klemm, or Wickline.
Embraced it but kind of ready for it to be all over..I can't remember who posted this, but during the chaos when the name Charley Strong first got really thrown out there they said regarding Nick Saban something like "Nick is getting older. Maybe we need to be looking for the next Nick Saban."
That has stuck in my head ever since I read it. The more I read about Strong, the more I think we may have the next Saban or coach with Saban-like success. I'm liking it a lot - but with the staff you listed, I'm in love with this series of hires (if close to your list of names). I think we'll get to see what kind of recruiter he's going to be in the next three weeks or so, that should be very interesting.
Are you hungover about this? Or have you embraced it?
do you think with his success of his staff developing teddy bridgewater, could he possibly be able get Kyler Murray because of that accomplishmentEmbraced it but kind of ready for it to be all over..
I really like Strong so long as he can overcome the SEC perception in the state right now. That's the only need for a home run hire, the perception. He's a great fit, better fit than Saban, and a very good coach.
I've been thinking the same thing as you. We will know by NSD. What I'm hoping for:
1. Hold on to the nucleus of this class. I don't mind someone peeling off so long as it's not the important recruits or in large numbers.
2. He must peel off 1 or 2 big stud recruits (Tony, Brown, Jamal Adams, Nick Harvey, Solomon Thomas, etc) still on the board or committed elsewhere. This would probably happen on defense, his specialty and the place where we need quality the most. No reason a new head coach at Texas cannot pull that off.
3. Get a 2014 commitment or two from a recruit that fits his style of play, like Edwin Freeman.
Mack Brown was able to close the 1998 class on an up note. It is important Strong get off to a good start and change the perception and shift the momentum.
Never say never, but it's going to be a tough pull. I'd imagine Sumlin still has the inside track on that one. But there's a lot of moving parts there. How do the Texas quarterbacks develop? What about Allen at aggy? Will another school enter the picture with Allen at aggy?do you think with his success of his staff developing teddy bridgewater, could he possibly be able get Kyler Murray because of that accomplishment
I can't see him going there even though his dad is a former aggy QB they are just overcrowded at that positionNever say never, but it's going to be a tough pull. I still think he's an aggy in the end.
I think he will land a couple of stud defensive recruits. Most new coaches at the blue-bloods are able to pull that off. It's a chance for recruits to come in when the depth chart is a clean slate. Also, kids like being apart of a turnaround, shocking the country and helping new coaches. Tony Brown, Nick Harvey, Jamal Adams and Solomon Thomas all seem to really like UT. It was the shaky coaching situation that turned them off. Strong can make his case and possibly peel one or two of them or perhaps another recruit we aren't discussing. He may also be able to peel off an out of state recruit. You just never know.If I'm Strong I hit the in state defensive studs hard and show them his 08 defense at Florida, where they went in the draft, and play the close to home card as much as possible.
If he flips more than 1 in the 14' class I'll be shocked. If he flips more than that, it's a very good sign of things to come.
This comes from an 24/7 user by the username,LotusHorn. Supposedly, he's been surprisingly accurate the past few days.
He thinks Strong is bringing from Louisville:
Vance Bedford - DC
Brian Jean-Marie - LB & Recruiting Coordinator
Kenny Carter - RB
Pat Moorer - S&C
will be interesting to watch ... another team may enter the picture ... a business decision shouldn't be about childhood favoritesI can't see him going there even though his dad is a former aggy QB they are just overcrowded at that position
Klemm is a gamechanger. Like he and Orgeron take back the state by Sophomore Days.I like Klemm. He's also an excellent recruiter.
His uncle went to Texas (may have even played here). We're not in the position A&M is, but we're much much better than they think we are. A&M isn't in the position they think they're in either.Never say never, but it's going to be a tough pull. I'd imagine Sumlin still has the inside track on that one.
