8-4 is what I'm still looking for

Bear19, North Texas Golfer, I will ask you the same question.... .Why the disparity in standards?  Mack Brown got fired after an 8-5 record and one losing record in his.... (how many seasons?).  Your saying that Strong will be back after:  6-7, 5-7 and 6-6?

Help me understand.... Can anyone give an informed opinion?  I can come up with several possibilities.

What I've stated is just my humble opinion of what I think will happen and is not necessarily an "informed" opinion of what's going to happen.

And it's certainly not what I agree with. For me, it takes at least 9 wins to definitely save his job. Win 8 games and I could go either way on it. Win 7 games, he's gone for sure and I go get Tom Herman. And we would be in the playoffs in his 2nd year and possibly even his 1st year.

I have zero inside information. I simply believe the powers that be are hell set on giving Charlie at least four years. I don't agree with it but I think that is written in stone.

Strong should be fired if he finishes with any of those records this year. Especially considering how bad the rest of the teams left on the schedule are.

Let me know when y'all find an Urban Meyer to hire... Bad-ass coaches are few and far between.

If you think Herman is the answer, then start praying for 6-6.

I will never root for Texas to fail/lose but its time for Strong to step up. Tell me who has a more talented roster than Strong has to work with in the Big 12 right now?

2-1, they're right where I had them at this point in the season.  I don't care who they beat or who they lost to.  The staff didn't suddenly forget how to coach and the 2014 defense wasn't an anomaly.  You don't simply put freshmen on the field and things work, look at Parrish Cobb at OU...I know there are folks screaming for the safety's to get bumped, it's happening.  The best players will be on the field before the season is over.  Nobody expected this team to win the Big12 this season (they were pulling their pud if they did), the offense is purring like a fat cat and can finally score some f'n points.  The D lacks push at the point of attack and players are making huge mistakes.  "Young players make mistakes" and I believe 8-9 of the top tacklers on  defense are underclassmen.  They lost an f'n game they should have won and turnovers were costly in that contest.  The players have to make the plays, coaches need to identify who in the F*%k doesn't have a clue and move forward with someone else.

I'm sure some of you would be fine had they lost to ND by seven and beat Cal.

They can compete with and or beat everyone that remains on their schedule and this program may very well be too much for Strong to handle.  But, there's not another Meyer out there and this team isn't losing 5 conference games.  Strong will be back in 2017.

Personally, I'd like to see them go at least 8-4 and win a bowl game.  At the very least, that easily pulls kids for another great recruiting class and even more momentum moving forward.

I agree. Bad-ass coaches are few and far between.

There are only two, Saban and Meyer.

He's obviously not there yet, but Herman is the most likely candidate to join them.

Don't see any other coaches anywhere that are currently showing the capability to get to the bad-ass level.

And even though I would take Herman over Strong in a heartbeat, I'm absolutely not praying for 6-6.

Let me add this to my above post.

If you have a chance to get a bad-ass coach, you go for it. If you don't, you better have a damn good reason.

NTG

I can't think of any good reason, at least one that is likely to occur, to not go get Herman if he is available. Can you?

The only reason you don't go after Herman after this year is if Charlie meets or exceeds expectations.

And therein lies the rub.

My expectations may not be the same as yours or anybody else's. And I'm pretty damn sure that my expectations are higher than the actual decision-makers. That's why I'm of the opinion that Charlie is back as long as he goes at least 6-6 and gets in a bowl.

With the Big 12 as weak as it is this year, 9 wins meets my expectations and 10 wins exceeds it.

I am thinking the exact same thing. If he goes six and six he's back.

With this schedule 8-4 is awful. I have said 9-3 from the start. Also I agree the winning the Big 12 should not have been an expectation before the season but after seeing what a shit show the Big 12 is I think it's reasonable to move the bar up a bit.

Ron Zook at Florida 8-5, 8-5.7-5 and then fired.. Food for thought. Here we're 6-7, 5-7. I think we get to at least 9 wins this year..

Based on what we've seen so far, there is no Big 12 team that falls in the "powerhouse" category.

So think of it this way.

Finish 11-1 and the conference record is 9-0.

Finish 10-2 and it's 8-1.

Finish 9-3 and it's 7-2.

Finish 8-4 and it's 6-3.

Finish 7-5 and it's 5-4.

Finish 6-6 and it's 4-5.

With the talent Texas has, there is absolutely no reason to lose more than 2 conference games this year.

Realistically, I bumped them from 7 to 8 after ND, dropping the game @ Cal...back down to 7-5.  While there isn't a true front runner in the Big 12, they're not UTEP either.
