247 REPORTING

Perhaps I misinterpreted. I thought you were questioning Heards toughness because of his inability to stay in the game. My bad.

No, I was talking about how tough Colt was.

As for Heard, I worry about his small frame. Not a lot of meat on those bones. He needs to beef up but without losing those moves. I was finding myself holding my breath on some plays before he got hurt.

You can't help concussions. Things like that happen, unfortunately. My son had two when he played and doc said one more and he never plays again. I had at least one when I played but probably had more than that.

Heard can potentially do this, too, if he'd keep his eyes downfield if his first option is covered. But he doesn't.
I agree.

But the thing that continually amazes me - especially when comparing Heard to Colt (which is ridiculous at the outset), are posters inability to understand that Heard doesn't have a Shipley or a Cosby as reliable receivers.

In fact, I would challenge anyone on the board to name ONE receiver that even comes close to those two.  I'll go even further - name ONE receiver that could even be considered a "reliable" receiver.  Burt has promise, but he is young and still struggles with getting separation.  And don't even mention Daje'.

Colt admits that he always knew Shipey would be open if he needed him.  And he knew that Shiply could catch anything in his area code.  These kinds of receivers sure help pad a QB's statistics.

As far as scrambling?  Hell, every QB has to do that in their career.  People are mistaken if they think Colt ALWAYS had to do it - even with the mediocre line he had in 2009.

Same thing was said about Colt his redshirt Freshman year too.

Speaking of 247, Howe is suggesting that the staff could potentially burn Locksley and/or Merrick's RS this weekend. That would be ridiculous. Throw whatever receiver has the best arm behind center if something happens to Swoopes. You don't burn an entire season for one game that you're predicted to lose anyways.

If they burn one of them, hopefully it's Merrick.

I'm fairly certain that Merrick was the next guy up when Heard went out of a game earlier this year,  Someone tweeted that, but don't remember who.

I know Norvell mentioned the possibility of this happening in his PC - but I imagine they'll do whatever they can to avoid it.

If the staff does this it's out of desperation.

I don't think it's guaranteed that CFS and staff are back if we burn Locksley's redshirt and get blown out by Baylor. That'd be an unprecedented screw-up. Play Holtz - that way you'll have an excuse for failure.

Ok, so they fought there hearts out and just happen to lose while giving up season highs to their RB Smallwood.  Moving on

Now Iowa State, please continue...

just for giggles lets call the Iowa State and Texas game the "Winner loses their job and Loser keeps his" bowl.
Every time I feel the need to get on a stump and defend Strong, I think of the ISU game.

TCU, ND and the upcoming Baylor games are proof they just had better teams.  I didn't like the losses, but I understood how young we were and how weak we were at QB, so the losses were expected.

What to say about ISU?

Other than we were flat outcoached - so bady, in fact, that we were SKUNKED.  Against ISU.  Need I remind everyone - agains ISU, for Gods sake!

That's on the coaches and, even though I reluctantly agree to give Strong one more year, he better, by God, trot a powerhouse out in 2016.

Don't bet on it, Doc. 8 wins will be trumpeted as a big deal for this coaching staff by Bellmont.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner.

Take away Burt and this year's receiving corp was way below average.

Absolutely!

If you won't fire a coach after going 4-8, then you not going to ever fire him.

All he has to do next year to keep his job is be better than 4-8. Even it we only win 5 or 6 games, it will be seen as progress and it will be said that since we were breaking in a new OC, we have to give him at least another year.

JBTexEx said that if we win 8 games next the it will be trumpeted as a big deal by Belmont. I'm saying that just making a bowl game will be trumpeted as a big deal even if it only with 6 wins. That's how far our expectations have fallen.

That's a hyperbolically absurd statement.  Context matters - and Perrin apparently has a different understanding of the situation Texas finds itself in than you do.

I mean David Beatty just went 0-12, if they're not going to fire him after a winless season - I guess they'll never fire him.  Even at Kansas winning matters - but within the context of who they are.

Well, it wouldn't be the first hyperbolically absurd statement I've ever made  :)

Which begs an answer to the question that has baffled me for 2 years.

Someone please tell me why Marcus Johnson has been starting for 2 years?  Is this another Gray starts over Foreman and Warren because we like him more thingy.  Hell give Newsome a shot or Lorenzo.

He has been one of the most unproductive starters I can recall.  If he manages to actually catch a ball he has the speed to make something happen but not often.  Hence the 10 yard per catch average.

I dont care how great the coaches say he is at practices, hes absent during games.  His stats have declined every year.

2015 - 12 rec for 130

2014 - 27 rec for 313

2013 - 22 rec for 350

LOL, Locksley tweeted his thoughts on that prospect:
