2026 Recruiting Board/Thread

Recruiting class so far:

QB - Great player there
RB - want
WR - Stud in Bishop, Stewart and Brown are good but will need development
TE - Sucks they missed on everyone, but I expect Endries (one year) Townsend, Washington and Winston to be occupying that position for the next 3 years. Spot play for Shannon and Randle in 2026.
OT - stud in Turntine, development for Wright. Would like 1 more
IOL - lacking. Robertson has the tools, but need development. 1 or 2 more here is needed
DL - Solid 3 to go with last years. I know they would like one more, but they have depth right now.
DE - Stud in Wesley, but need 1 more at least
LB - Big need. Okpala is solid, but he could spin to DE with more mass. Plays better on the line. Need at least 2 with Hill moving on.
CB - Solid to compliment last years haul of Littleton and Phillips. Stud in Mathews, development for Howard.
S - underwhelming, but Texas is loaded at S. Hicks reclassified last year and I believe he would've been high 4* in this class.

Kicker, punter and long snapper also in this class.

All in all it's a solid class so far. Big needs are a stud LB, another edge, IOL, and another OT, imo. Cooper would be great at RB, but they don't need it. I would've also put S, but it's a deep roster.

From Blake Munroe today at OTF

Texas could be the favorite for elite Fort Lauderde, Fla. running back Derrek Cooper. I was told yesterday that Miami is now running a distant second… and that distance continues to grow. The Hurricanes will continue to ‘recruit through the whistle’ when it comes to Cooper, but they believe they have A LOT of ground to make up.

I feel really optimistic right now with regard to Cooper. Word is spreading and seems to have first come from the Miami side. Miami was considered the favorite until recently. Word is the distance between Texas and Miami is growing right now.

On the other hand, it is 7 days until he announces. A lot could happen in that time. This could be a player who switches back and forth during that time. Or, he could just have his mind made up firmly. I hope for the latter.

Cooper is 6'1, 205 lbs

That is the same size Bijan was when we got him.

People keep saying were at about the same place we were last year. The problem is that we werent swinging and missing like we have this year. We were just idle.
We have been good at flipping but are we going to be able to flip 7-8 at this point ?
Recruiting isn't as important as it once was. We now have the portal. Why overpay kids before they step on campus when you can pay them after a little development and they hit the portal? We've been pretty successful so far with the portal. I really don't see a problem.

Yep, the Longhorns aren't going to take guys in recruiting that they don't think can be dudes on the field. No filler scholarships, no wasted NIL deals, etc.

Gotta invest at certain positions in recruiting - line of scrimmage, QB - areas you want players coming in young and you can development them in your system. Other positions are more easily supplemented via the portal if needed.

From Gerry today regarding percentages of Cooper coming to Texas or Miami.

Cooper - 65/35 Texas … but six days away

Atkinson - 55/45 Texas
