2026 PORTAL

The signing of WR Berkhalter from WF is a little odd to me. I thought WR would be way down on the needs list. Nothing against this guy, but outside of Coleman, Wingo and Mosely, I would like to see the other reps go to Lockett and Bishop.

Speaking of reps, have the staff figured out what M. Terry is yet? Will we see him at RB or WR or both this year?

My thoughts exactly but I assume (and hope) it’s just insurance.

Like you said, the five guys you mentioned need to get 90% of the playing next season or we aren’t developing. If they aren’t willing to block and that’s why we brought this guy in, then that’s also development and on the coaches.

Disaster insurance. Not to say that if Berkhalter comes in and wows everybody, that he won't play. But his recruitment is to limit worst case scenario damage. Similar to the QB addition.

What we will never see again (until they change the ridiculous system we currently have) is teams like BAMA and Georgia of about 5 years ago. Teams with NFL talent across the board and a third team that could beat most of their opponents. What really hurt us in the portal this year - is overall depth. OL especially but WR wasn't imune.

I haven't thoroughly vetted this thought... but it almost seems to me like Texas is trying to build a 2-tier team. They are recruiting to this and trying to come up with a roster for this. It's the best financial plan for a championship.

Tier One:

Top shelf players. All stars.... 5 stars. Proven performers. Tier 1 would ideally comprise everyone who plays meaningful snaps. Probably 7 or 8 OL, several interior DL, 3 or 4 edges.... etc...

Tier Two:

Depth. Players who can fill in when disaster strikes without looking like the Bad News Bears.

Just a thought... but I think I kind of see this happening.

The HS recruiting class is almost like a year long tryout in the program. We may pay you a bunch to get you here... and then this will be re-evaluated at the end of year 1. At that point you will be offered either Tier One or Tier Two money.

I don't think teams will have the luxury of quality depth anymore. Not with kids getting crap advice from people pretending to know how to be agents.
These so-called agents are the real problem in college sports right now. There has to be a system put into place that vets or licenses these jackals.

What is ironic about that exact point is the season's have gotten longer (to include playoffs) for 12 teams. This is the time when you need that depth more than ever.

We've got some depth on the OL already. Cojoe, Coleman, Chatman are all very talented. One of them could end up starting at LG.

If we don't develop them, then we can't complain about depth unless we feed ourselves primarily with portal OL and forget about developing the HS recruits.

I prefer recruiting HS offensive linemen, developing them for a couple years and then getting them on the field. I think this is what Sark and Flood planned on doing until seeing what happened last year.... the system we're in right now kind of prohibits it.

Brooks (as awful as he played this past year) is a tremendous talent. Remember, this year he was a true freshman. I saw him as a viable candidate to replace Goosby at LT. Instead, he hit the portal.

Stroh (as awful as he played this year) was a large human, strong as an ox - and certainly could have been a good starter before leaving the 40 acres. Instead, he hit the portal.

Kibble - similar bio to Stroh above.

If you can't keep your second & third string on campus, I think the portal is going to be primary until things change.

Last point and then I'll shut my typing fingers up.

Coach Flood may very well be Texas' best OL coach in my fan-life which goes way back. He's in danger of becoming a whipping-boy for Texas fans. Ketchum reported that there was consideration to replace him this year. I'm not sure that is a good idea. But be that as it may, I will say this.... Flood's recruiting after his very first year (all those players are gone now) has drastically dropped. Then the mother of all mistakes (if true), lobbying to not add portal additions this past offseason. The recruiting misses and no portal additions created a toxic cocktail! So, while I highly respect Coach Flood... part of our struggles kind of point back to him. This is a critical year for the UT OL!

IF the unthinkable happened and we lost a couple of front liners to injury, this moves keeps us with some experience at WR. I want to see the younger pups grow up too and I hope they do.

Bishop is going to be a difference maker.

I hope Terry gets PT at RB. I keep hearing that he turns heads every time at practice. Would be sad to waste a 5-star talent like him. If we don't use him this year, he probably portals out of Austin.

The OL recruits UT has gone after have not cream crop, spent 2yrs on Kibble,Cruz,& 1 on Christian. Cojoe,Chatman,Ol line from Allen never seen field. Banks,Williams fell in lap. EJ Campbell was biggest recruit in 4 yrs. Think Brooks might been good.
