2026 PORTAL

I'm late to this portal thing. What is the logic of NCAA having portal now when there are now games and playoffs? I know I said NCAA and logic, which is probably a classic example of an oxymoron. Please excuse that.

The portal isn't happening right now. I think it opens on Jan 4 and lasts for 15 days.

Players can enter the portal whenever they want.

But there is open negotiations between schools and players from other schools...craziness
I agree. That is what I was alluding to. Players not playing in bowl games, open negotiations, etc. For lack of better description, it is open free agency. I understand a young person trying to better their situation (or their parents, relatives, agent, etc). It appears the timing of this seems to be at one of the worst times.

Christmas wish.

Jack Endries will play in the Bowl Game and then decide to turn pro or not. So now the question begs do we want him to have another big game and improve his stock? Or will it help him see he can still grow and come back one more year? lol

Also, you will see news all over today that Arch is taking a pay cut to help us pay more in NIL for big transfers to win a ring. It is valiant and a nice thing to do to help the team. But keep in mind he isn't hurting for money and is still getting paid BIG from all his national ads. Just not as much straight from the Texas Collective. Let's see who we get with that extra money!

He's been underutilized all season until the last game or two. Helm was also underutilized.

I want him to have a big game, go pro and make some $$$. He's got pro written all over him.

I think this may have more impact on the portal and retaining current players than HS recruiting...

This is a mature NFL-ish move. He supposedly took lesser pay last year as well. This signals to me what his priorities are.

with the parting of Tre Owens, QB Josh Hoover would arguably (certainly) be an improvement...

Right now, talking heads have him likely going to Indiana

Unlikely Texas needs a return specialist to replace Nesbitt. That usually goes to a recruited "athlete" or a fast receiver in waiting.
Nonetheless, if they do want one, there is a nationally ranked special teams returner just down the street.....
