2026 PORTAL

Michigan starting offensive lineman Andrew Sprague to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Zach Shaw (Michigan 247)

Late Friday night, the Michigan football team saw another 2025 starter enter the NCAA Transfer portal, as right tackle Andrew Sprague was first reported by Matt Zenitz to be entering the portal.

  • Sprague, who was a redshirt freshman this fall, played 740 of the Wolverines' 867 offensive snaps this season, 736 of which came at right tackle. He started 12 games for the Wolverines, but did not play in Michigan's Citrus Bowl matchup against Texas.

The 6-foot-8, 315-pounder and former top-100 recruit finished 73rd out of 256 qualified FBS tackles in Pro Football Focus's pass-blocking grade, 95th in run-blocking grade and 72nd in overall grade. Of 53 freshman and redshirt freshman who played enough snaps, however, he was 10th in PFF's overall blocking grade.

He allowed just one sack on 346 pass-blocking snaps, though he did surrender 19 pressures, ranking him 129th in pass-blocking efficiency. With great size and reach, Michigan was optimistic that Sprague could become a multi-year starter and possibly a star for the Wolverines as an upperclassman.

Of course, a lot has changed with Michigan since Sprague's last game. Head coach Sherrone Moore, who recruited Sprague, was fired for cause. And this week, the Wolverines moved on from offensive line coach Grant Newsome as Kyle Whittingham puts his own staff in place.

Michigan is set to hire Jim Harding as its offensive line coach after 12 seasons in that role with Utah. Harding is an Ohio native who coached high school football in the state of Michigan before moving to the collegiate ranks.

"One of the country's top OL coaches. Has developed a nation's leading 12 first-team all-conference players since 2015 and likely to have two first-round picks in April," Matt Zenitz wrote.

Sprague, who was the No. 68 overall prospect in the 2024 247Sports Composite, hailed from the Kansas City area originally, and was not offered by Harding and Utah out of high school.

This past fall, he was one of three redshirt freshmen starting on the offensive line for the Wolverines, believed be a first for the maize and blue in the 21st century.

Be sure to check back with our Michigan Transfer Portal page for a running list of players who enter the portal in the next two weeks. The portal is officially open Jan. 2-15.

IT said things continue to go back and forth with Kibble and the portal. They thought earlier he was entering but now his side is back in talks with Texas on a potential return.

From OTF/Burton

Michigan all-conference OL Andrew Sprague has entered the transfer portal.

Sprague entered with a no-contact tag.

Texas is expected to be a real player in this recruitment.

He has played Tackle and was an honorable mention in their all conference selections as a freshman. This would mean Baker would move to OG.
Would Baker really be on board with this though? It seemed like Baker improved throughout the season despite a slow start.
