2024 Baseball Season Thread

Horns win another shut out. Pitching has looked gteat except for Whitt hopefully he comes aroundby conference start.

Womens softball over UT Baseball on LHN at 1:00 when baseball was scheduled on the official UT site? I'll stop looking for the baseball games to be televised and just look for final scores on a sports channel.

15-4 win over St Johns. Early pitching was a bit shakey but they shut them down over the last 6 innings. Bats were obviously alive.

I was relieved to see Tanner Witt get the 9th inning and go 1-2-3. He didn't pitch at all this weekend.

St Johns isn't a bad team, they beat Florida earlier this season.

Does not look good, 1 run 2 on and no outs. Horns have 1 hit but still early in game.

3 run homer for the comeback abd leadby1. Shaw just has to holdthem onemore inning.

Looksto besame old story relif pitching pluslittle mistakes are going to make it a long season.

Do the Horns need a pitching coach?

Vandy has a good team but no way should that much leadbe blown.

So is coaching a big part of the problem?
I think it remains a bit challenging to assess Coach Pierce overall.

On the one hand, he has been to the CWS 3 out of 6 seasons and has won the big 12 3 times as well. 50% success rate for both of those accomplishments is better than what we had with Augie (40% and 35%).

By season six, Augie had built a juggernaut that went on a tear over the next 10 years. That 10 year stretch included 2 championships, 2 runner ups, all 7 of his conference championships and all but 2 of his CWS appearances.

I am not sure I am seeing a juggernaut at this point with Coach Pierce and I don't necessarily see a path to that with how things have gone with him. If he keeps up a 50% success rate with conference championships and CWS appearances, it'll be hard to move on, even if he seems to be piecing teams together that just barely squeak by. At the same time, this is a program that has championship aspirations and if Pierce isn't making significant progress towards that soon, I wouldn't be shocked to see CDC move along and seek out a Juggernaut building (like Coach White has done with softball).

Conference might bring change in some coaching decisions. Time will tell. Hope bull pen management gets better some times to me Hornsgo withtoo many relivers. It is possible trying tofind out whocan do thejob best.
