2024 Baseball Season Thread

So do we fire a coach who got us to the playoffs?
An average Texas team will make a regional 90% of the time so posing it as “making the playoffs” is a stretch.

I was all for giving Pearce the benefit of the doubt early season. However, the team has not progressed. They haven’t really regressed either, but they are a stagnant team losing games they shouldn’t and winning games they shouldn’t. My biggest issue with Pearce is the incondistancyof the program from one year to the next and a failure to secure solid assistant coaching. I think Pearce is a good coach, but not a good manager. There’s a difference. His inability to identify, draw and keep a good staff and support system has been his biggest failure. I think it’s time to move on.thank him for his time and the 3 trips to Omaha, but cut ties now.

But CDC won't do it. In every sport except for football when CDC has made an outside hire, he's went for a splash. You'll probably say Sark wasn't a head coach when he hired him. But he had been and then rehabilitated himself under Saban. The current basketball coach was promoted but had been head coach and led them to the Elite 8. Hard to fire someone after that.

He'll go for someone splashy that wants to coach with Texas resources. Don't know who it will be but my guess is we won't hear anything until after the CWS. Unless CDC's target loses early.

This has nothing to do with who I think will be hired but: Go Ducks!

Yes I don’t see that happening. CDC is too calculated and won’t take chances. The guy is too unproven. Too many quality guys out there to test the water on before hiring somebody that’s not a HC yet

One thing CDC has shown, is that if he lets a coach go then he already knows who the next one will be. I'm assuming if this happens it will happen quick.

Stoops was never a head coach and look what he did at ou.

Peirce wasn't splashy and yes, I know CDC didn't hire him. I know Weiner is a longshot, but he still should be looked at based on his impressive resume.

I'm not saying that he won't be a good head coach. I'm saying that is not the way CDC works. He hired the best head coaches he could for softball, T&F, Women's Basketball, Men's Basketball (he hired Beard), Rowing, swimming. Our other coaches were in place. This will be his first baseball hire, I bet he swings for the fences. Pierce was a fallback hire in 2016 because Texas sports wasn't in a good place post-Patterson. We're now in a good place.

Van Horn coachat Texarkana JC then 20 plus years at Hoggville. Seems like he can coach a little.

Blake Munroe (he is the baseball guy at OTF) said there will be some hard questions asked now. 50/50 according to him.
Lets see if there is a trend.

At the very least it is recruiting. Pierce being the pitching coach is also a very compelling argument.

I get the impression that recruiting is not Pierce's strong suit, especially in today's environment where you have to be ultra aggressive. Compare Sark's approach with Pierce's. No comparison. Coach Terry seems to be learning from Sark by turning over most of the roster this offseason. Pierce needs to take lessons.

He's 63 and I believe we need some young blood in there. Besides, he played for Arkansas, loves it there and does not like Texas since his days at Nebraska.

I agree not young enough. We should kick the tires on some young coach like Tony Vitello and see if he likes Austin more than Knoxville.

Was not saying to hirehim. If you can coach moghi not need head coaching exoerence.
IMO recruiting was not a Pierce problem Management espically pitching was..

Sark was not a HC when CDC hired him.

He had been. And had then apprenticed under Saban. And had the best offense in college football.

Sark was a risk. He was/is a recovering alcoholic. Who knew if he would stay on the path because so many don't.

His HC career was pronounced dead back then.

I give credit to Sark and God for him maintaining himself despite all the pressure he faces.

But CDC most definitely took a risk in hiring him.
