IT has been down on Texas' chances for OL Harris Sewell of Odessa Permian, but they've been hearing more positive things lately.

They don't know if the renewed optimism is because he's talked with QB Arch Manning for a long time, but they're investigating.

Sewell is big on Notre Dame and Oklahoma.

All the bread crumbs seem to be favoring Arch to Texas. Why would Sewell be more positive on Texas after a visit to a Bama bound Arch?

Caught up a little with my friend in Austin. I asked a lot of questions about Manning, of course.

Staff feels very confident in where Texas sits with Manning right now. They feel Bama is their main threat now but they think Bama will go a different direction soon as they're supposed to get a commit from a Cali QB they think.

He is supposed to come in and visit in late March, but he said it could happen before then.

I asked him if Reuben Owens would be visiting on the same weekend. Unexpectedly, he said "I hope not."

He said when Manning is in town, they roll out the red carpet for him. The last time he was down, there were several other prospects visiting, too. One of those was Reuben Owens. He showed his ass a little during that visit, didn't like the red carpet treatment Manning was getting. Manning had family with him while Owens did not.

They really like Owens' play, but saw a side of him they didn't care for.

I asked about the team. He said there's a different everything this year. Different tempo in workouts. Different level of seriousness. There were lots of deer in the headlights last spring. Not this year. They're able to get more done as a result.

Team continues to warm up to Ewers. He said the team treats him a bit like a celebrity.

That is all.

Texas does not need a guy of Owens caliper that's not a team player but all about himself

Seems like we hear this kind of thing every year,  hopefully this year it translates to the field.

You can include the videos. We see the weight room vids and during the season we hear how soft and out of shape we are.

No, not last year. What I heard last spring was the team was having trouble adapting to their new routines, weren't understanding the off season program as a whole. They left spring game hoping the team would catch on during the summer workouts.

Coaches are almost always going to put a positive spin on what's going on in the program,  It was a long time ago, but the message I remember from last year was about how well the install was going and how the team was buying in and doing everything they needed to succeed.

I am extremely optimistic about where the program is going and reaaly want to believe we are turning a corner, but I temper that optimism with the fact that I had similar feelings about the program for many years that ended in disappointment.

TFB painted a very different picture. Between that and covid, they had serious concerns about the team and the season after spring camp was over.

We'll be better at the positions we were weak at last year. OL, WR, DL. How that translates to wins is another story.

I'm actually looking forward to the Bama game. If we can even stay close with them, it will be a momentum builder. Thats not a moral victory to celebrate, its gauging your team against the best and being motivated by it.

I remember Auburn coming to town with Bo Jackson.  He got caught from behind and broke his collarbone in that game. Auburn left with a loss.  Hopefully we have something similar happen when Bama comes to town.   Would love to send them home with a loss.

Looks like we trail again.

Honest question.... did you read the article or just post it because you thought it fit the narrative you wanted?

I read it and to say "looks like we trail again" while posting this article is kinda weird. According to the article you posted. They actually had Georgia as the favorite at 36%, now Alabama is at 30.1% & Georgia slipped to 24.9%. The article you posted actually states Texas & Ole Miss were beneficiaries. So if this article is your bases, we always trailed but we have made up ground.
