2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Wow. Hate to see this.
I kind of feel the same way. I get the feeling, and I could be way off, the staff is going after N. Harris or JK Robbins and that's it this year. If they can get one of them they will take it, but if not, they'll go with Foreman, Warren, Johnson, Houston, and Porter for next year. That is an embarrassment of riches in the backfield. I doubt Foreman leaves early, but if he does you have Porter. Look for a RB or 2 in 2018. Not sure what they do if they nab Harris or Dobbins (both longshots).

I feel Hines is a August-November commit. He's an EE and will probably wait to see the product we put on the field this fall. If we win some games early I could see him pull the trigger.

"Texas has landed their first 2016 offensive line commit this evening in DeSoto (TX) OL Xavier Newman, who was offered by Texas 12 days ago and visited for the Spring game last weekend. It looked like Texas A&M was the leader heading into his Texas visit but I was told that Newman and his mother were blown away by the visit and he decided to shut it down quickly. As I said, TAMU was a major factor in his recruitment as was Colorado, a school with lots of ties to DeSoto HS.

Look for Texas to land around 3 OL in 2017. They are sitting in a good spot with elite OT Walker Little right now, and Newman will play guard at Texas as he is around 6’3 280 pounds right now. Newman was also invited to the Opening OL/DL finals this summer as he dominated at the Dallas regional. This is a really solid pickup for the Longhorns and OL coach Matt Mattox."

I think Eno is an easy flip if Texas offers and gives him the attention he deserves. Kid has a lot of skill and I think he really wants to be on the 40.

That said, it may be a matter of just how much talent is already on the depth chart.

Per Scout:

Mammoth lineman Chuck Filiaga is one of the biggest offensive tackles in the country and weighed in at a solid 6-foot-6, 335 pounds at The Opening Regional Camp in L.A back in February.

For as big as he is, Filiaga is very well built and has tremendous upside. He's a naturally strong kid who moves around well and plays hard. He's still refining himself as a player in terms of his technique and becoming more comfortable on the offensive side of the ball but there's a reason just about every top program in the country has offered him a scholarship.

Filiaga played his last two seasons at Vista Murrieta (Calif.) and is currently still working out with the team and will finish off the spring semester before transferring to Aledo (Texas) for his senior year.

On the recruiting front Filiaga, spent his Spring Break a month ago checking out, in order, the Oklahoma SoonersTexas LonghornsBaylor BearsTennessee VolunteersAuburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide. The big lineman gave his thoughts on each program.

Longhorns- "I loved the UT campus and had a great time with Coach Strong. As soon as I walked in the door, the whole staff greeted me and were cracking jokes and made me feel comfortable. Coach Strong is a great guy and I loved what he had to say. He talked about the discipline he wants and expect in the program and how they're building something great there."

......................

If we push for him I believe he is ours. Be interesting to watch him this year against TX HS football talent
