2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Chevin Calloway: He says he’s down to Arkansas, Texas, and Ole Miss but this is really a Longhorns-Razorbacks battle in my mind. He’s originally from Arkansas and has lots of family in the state so they will be hard to fend off. Though I will say that Arkansas had a huge lead when Tom Herman was hired, but that lead has shrunk over the last few weeks. I still feel that Arkansas leads but Texas will have a shot to put a big dent in that this weekend.

Grant Polley: After missing on OT targets in Walker Little and Chuck Filiaga, Colorado OT commit Grant Polley has become a top priority for Texas OL coach Derek Warehime. Texas is the only threat to Colorado to flip the Denton (TX) OT, and with some of the other Colorado commits from Texas wavering in their commitments, that can’t hurt the Longhorns with Polley as they will have their chance to wow him this weekend.

Larrell Murchison: A guy nobody has really been talking about in Louisburg College  (NC) JUCO DT Larrell Murchison. He was offered by Ole Miss last week and committed the next day, and the Rebels are his only current offer. Though he did tell me other than the Texas visit this weekend, he will visit Houston next weekend, and Ole Miss on the weekend before NSD. So it sounds like the staff was recruiting him when they were at UH. As I had in my class breakdown post earlier this week, Texas will most likely take either, 0 or 1 DT in 2017.

Taquon Graham: Even though he’s committed to Texas, this could be the biggest official visitor for Tom Herman and company as Oklahoma and TCU are pushing very hard for him and he plans to visit both schools later this month. This will also be the first time Graham and his mother will have face to face time with HC Tom Herman. Expect to see Graham’s close friend and HS teammate WR Davion Curtis host him during the visit.

This class reminds me of the 2005 class. This one might end up being bigger, but that class was underrated and small in numbers. Fourteen, I think, but as I said very underrated and filled needed gaps in certain positions. Headliners were Colt, Jamaal, Quan, Roy Miller, Finley and Henry Melton. A lot of NFL talent in a small class. Let's hope this one has similar output.

I wish the weather would be nicer for this weekends visitors. Suppose to rain all weekend here in Austin.
