2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

A quick question.

I keep seeing the number that we can sign as 31. Does attrition factor in this in any way? For example, if the staff knows that 3 current players (I picked that number out of thin air) are going to transfer or give up football can they now sign 34? And I know that early enrollees factor in all this but not exactly sure how.

Someone give me quick primer. Thanks.
25 is the max for each year.  My understanding is that Texas can sign 31 this year but 6 of those fall in the previous recruiting class.  Merrick will probably be a greyshirt and could be awarded a scholarship for the 2016 recruiting class.

The coaches can play with numbers but 85 is the max for total scholarships in football.

I'm pretty much ready for Burt's recruitment to come to a close. I'm stunned that he's even still committed to Texas and I'd be even more shocked if he actually went through with playing at Texas. He's seemed to be Auburn bound for months now. It honestly just feels like it's leading up to a not so dramatic hat flip for him. Don't get me wrong, I wish the kid nothing but the best wherever he plays. He's a real talent. If it's going to be Auburn, pull your commitment to Texas so that Texas can move on with our targets. If it is Texas, lets ride.
I believe the phrase you are looking for is sh*t or get off the pot.   ;)

Texas currently has 22 players committed for the 2015 class (for the purposes of this post I am not including grey-shirt Matthew Merrick).

John Burt is a likely de-commit (especially after his comments regarding the Abomination Bowl)

Assuming Burt does de-commit this gives Texas 10 available scholarships for the 2015 class

The following players are all still realistically in play for Texas:

Anthony Wheeler (choosing between OU and Texas today)

Tim Irvin (choosing between Auburn and Texas on Sat)

Devonaire Clarington (choosing between MIA, FLA, and Texas on Sat)

Kris Boyd (Texas lean but still taking OV's)

Chris Warren (Won't announce until all OV's are completed - Texas reported as leader in clubhouse)

Nick Brossette (LSU commit who has been very impressive at UA.  Rumors are that we're going to flip him)

Ryan Newsome (Seemingly a Texas lean, but don't count out Tennessee.  Don't know if Charlie is holding a spot for him or not)

Daylon Mack (Chavis hire might take him back to AtM, but also is very high on TCU.  Cancelled his OV to LSU)

Holton Hill (reportedly he and Boyd want to play together - Texas is the only overlapping school on their lists)

Carlos Strickland (Texas Tech commit who is looking to take an OV to Texas - teammate of Anthony Wheeler)

Gilbert Johnson (Former Georgia commit who went the prep school route.  Last of the Florida five - reports of a silent commit to Texas already)

After the Arkansas disaster it was reported that Strong and Watson both said that we would be taking another QB.  There is a lot of chatter that the other QB will be a prospect currently committed to an ACC school and whose dad has a long-time relationship with Strong.

Assuming this is a lock - that makes 12 players for 10 spots.

I think Mack is a bit of a long shot, and Strickland might not be realistic either so the remaining 10 names on this list might be how Strong finishes out this recruiting cycle.

Adding Wheeler, Irvin, Clarington, Boyd, Warren, Brossette, Newsome, Hill, Johnson, QB would give Strong and Texas a top 7 recruiting class.
Okay, I'll throw in my 2 cents worth but I'll warn you now. Don't make any bets based on what I say or think  :)

First, it wouldn't surprise me to get someone that's not even being talked about very much if at all. Don't have anyone in mind but I'm not talking about the "mystery recruit". And there are probably 1 or 2 maybe even 3 guys that we think we have a pretty good shot at that we don't get. I would put Boyd, Warren, Newsome, and Hill in that category. I don't think we end with all 4 of those guys. Probably 2 maybe 3.

I think we get Wheeler, Irvin, Clarington, and Johnson. But I think we can forget Burt as well as Mack. Brossette and Strickland are both long shots at best. As well as Locksley.

OU rivals just tweeted, "#Sooners seem to be about to miss out on one of their key targets for this weekend. Who is it?"

Hmmm wonder if it's Wheeler?
sooners decommits should not come as a huge surprise.

As usual, ou came into the season with lofty expectations of themselves and by the sports media (believe they were pre-season top 5 pick).

Their season turned into a 8-4 regular season dumpster fire with a season ending loss at home to a very mediocre Okie Lite team.

Top that off with the 40-6 bowl thrashing by Clemson and the mighty land thieves ended the 2014 campaign with a loud 8-5 thud.

I suspect players they are recruiting are being told by the competition that the ou program is in free-fall, there will be a coaching change(s) at some point and you are taking a big risk going there, etc.

Big Game Bob & ou program will recover some from this valley, but I think this season did a lot of damage to their program direction, prestige and the future of the HC.

We will see.

FYI this was about Wheeler. Apparently Wheeler's parents want him at UT and Kish at OU might be on the way out. The only thing swaying him to OU is his relationship with Frank Shannon.

Per HornsDigest Strong's phone is ringing off the hook with people asking about those two job openings.  It will be very interesting to see if Strong replaces those guys with 'recruiters' versus just straight 'coaches'.

Wyatt is obviously the popular name here but I wonder if he'd actually be considered.

I would guess not.

Would require Strong to admit he was wrong the first time.

But we will see

Mom and dad win out MOST of the time. There is a bond that is hard to overcome when it comes to a family relationship. And like we have all been saying all year, Charlie Strong will win parents over with his values and rules. HOOKEM.

Here are Soso Jamabo's personal predictions on where 6 players announcing at the Under Armour Game will go
"Daron to Alabama

Tyron to LSU
Tim Settle to USC
Anthony is going to Texas
Ronald is going to Notre Dame
Kendall to, that’s tough,†before looking over to Cedar Hill WR DaMarkus Lodge, who flashed aggy hand sign.
