Mack Brown helped build back a program that is now the wealthiest in the country by far and generates over $100M a year. Yet here people want to defend folks who behaved completely unethically and probably illegally, in violations of commitments of The University to Mack Brown. Mack has contributed far more to the University than he'll ever get back. It's a shame folks can't recognize and give credit to that.
Anubis my friend I think we all know what MB has done for the University Of Texas but trying to control what Texas dose are might do infront of the national news was not necessary. He is going to be given a very nice package that will allow him to live in the kind of comfort that most of us can only dream about so he got rewarded. It's the things he is doing now MB dose not have the right to say how the program will be run. MB sure don't have a say in who the next coach will be and he sure don't have the right to block any move Texas makes to hire a coach. After all MB is just a hired employee whose time has run out and MB is nothing more. I have always defended MB but not any more. I just want him out of Austin. My friends y'all have a great weekend

The only potentially reliable report we have at this point is that Mack Brown may be making an effort to negotiate his compensation. All the rest is wild and reckless speculation. Well, all the rest other than the fact that Hicks inappropriately contacted Saban a year ago.

But, if you do completely swallow everything you read on the internet, then you have to accept that The University has violated it's commitments to Mack Brown in an ongoing series of dishonorable ways. I tend to not believe that, but if you do then you believe we've got a pretty corrupt institution at which point it doesn't make much sense for Mack Brown to sit back and take it lying down.

Dear Mack:

Life sucks. Then you have to play the back nine.

You did not put this program in peril with violations. However, you only won 2 conference titles in 16 yrs. 2 MNC appearances. 1 MNC. Self admitted pouting after the 2009 loss to Alabama. Complete mismanagement of the QB position for years. Swoopes is your latest fun baby. Manny Diaz. As you can see, all over the board in results for $5+ million a year and ultimate protection from Dodds. By the way, Mack's main job is to win games and championships.

In summary, you say you were wronged by the force out. However, there was no tortious interference. Not a damn thing the regents did violated his precious contract or ability to do his job. And quite frankly, the ROI on investment the last 4 yrs would get most CEO's fired.

Mack, leave with the class you say you have. Which should be quietly and a thanks for a job pretty well done. If you don't, then all bets are off.

How can we be certain that Hicks was not acting with the blessings of The University and the "powers" that be. Why not seek the interest of other potential HC replacements since our present HC was not producing. Would be the avenue I would think any top corporation or business would take to insure the survival and stability of their enterprise.

I am with you. I am grateful to Mack and have no hard feelings. Heck, if he has tried to block Saban, he may even be CORRECT to do so. Saban could be a slime ball and could bring our program into degradation. I give Mack a ton of credit and a ton of grace. He may not be handling things perfectly but I am not going to turn on the guy. I think he is a good man who may be acting a bit immaturely currently, but that doesn't stain all that he has done for us.

Those of you who are pushing for the commencement of beatification proceedings at the Vatican for Mack are wise to remember how he went out if his way to defend Cleve Bryant.....and he has the gall to judge Nick Saban? As far as coaching is concerned I cannot believe that it took the second game of this year to realize that Diaz was in over his head? Wasn't he watching spring practice and fall camp? Could he not tell by simply watching the defense practice that things were not right? Or was Mac so detached that he doesn't know what is going on?

Look.....I have already stated Mack did some really good things..and he deserves credit for that.....but those of you who are his biggest supports have not really acknowledged any fault ? Do you really think he deserves to keep coaching after the past 4 years? O M G !!!

Assuming Hicks was the only person who violated Mack's contract, and The University only failed to manage Hicks properly, why would Mack not be entitled to correction of the injuries due to that violation? Why should Mack be the only person obligated by an honor code, one that Hicks thumbs his nose at, and thus abandon the long capitalist tradition of negotiation in business? You unhappy with every coach that negotiates with The University? How about Saban, he's apparently negotiated his way up to $100M, does that piss you off? (it will after he loses!)
Voilated Mack's contract?! While we are making things up out of thin air, why don't we also say we deprived Mack of resources, forced him and Sally to live in abject poverty, made the team play on a bare dirt field in a stadium without stands and forced Mack to crawl on bloodied knees on recruiting trips.

How did anyone "violate Mack's contract"? Its as if some of us have already gone full aggy, re-writing history to not reflect anything close to the actual events.

If it weren't for Vince Mack would have been fired years ago. People give Mack all the credit for the success UT has had but please remember Mack wasn't high on Vince it was Brewster that worked until the last min. and got Vince and alot of the recruiting success we had after that was because great players want to play for a winning team, hence why our recruiting has been down the last few years. Mack fell asleep running this program years ago and had tried to rededicate himself a couple of times. He should be fired for having to rededicate himself alone.

Oh yeah, the "if it weren't for Vince" argument. Go ahead and add "If it weren't for Colt, Ricky, Shipley, Benson, Jamal, . . ." and who ever else gets 'if it weren't for' credit in the course of becoming the second winningest coach in Texas history. Speaking of which, DKR got the Mack Brown treatment on his way out as well. Don't really have a whole lot of folks taking credit for that these days. Doubt anyone here will admit their behavior towards Mack 20 years from now either.

Btw, if there's no Mack Brown there's no Vince at Texas. And, if Vince is at some other school, who knows if he wins a NC. He sure bombed under "better" coaches in the NFL.

Sally, I'm sorry you and Mack feel like you have been treated so bad lately and I hope you two enjoy your time away from UT!

Good points. It's amazing how quickly people forget what Mack has done and most importantly what has been accomplished at Texas during his time.

Mack is a dick behind the scenes, and I was amazed at how much once I got the inside scoop. That said, I cant blame the guy for running his show with an iron fist and being the guy parents love in public. He had a hell of a empire running until it caught up with him and people chose to see beyond the smoke.

I liked the post for the "Sally" part. I don't think the Browns have been treated badly ever. On the contrary, I think Mack Brown has been making over 5 times the salary he actually deserves.

Texas football program would have generated far more glory and money over the past 16 years had a real football coach led the program. In this respect, I place more blame on Delossy (brain dead) Dudd than Mack Brown.

That's a fallacious argument. Can you actually negate the possibility of Vince joining Texas if another coach had been at the helm? Do it and you get a PhD.

You would have a better argument if you said "if not for Vince Young's parents, there's no Vince at Texas."

You are correct, they haven't been treated poorly at all and my post has been corrected. Mack has done some good things in his time here but I feel like in time more stories will trickle out about him that will shock people and tarnish his legacy more. He has done a great job of controlling the image of his program at ALL costs, I have heard stories from people and past players that make me have very little respect for him as a person. If you run around talking about what a great person he is then you have bought into his propaganda and will be let down once more comes out.

Everybody just relax. When you try to argue with somebody that fundamentally disagrees with you and is unwilling to consider an alternate point of view, you will always get a circular argument. Recognize it for what it is, the death rattle of MB as coach at Texas.

Let them go peacefully.

...is mack brown a man of faith? somehow along the way, mack has forgotten just how to count his many blessings...
