Turner

I make the rounds of several forums to see if I can glean any information of value on Texas basketball. HornFans is usually pretty dead but this is actually a pretty well reasoned discussion on whether Coach Barnes is up to what Texas' standards should be. I pretty much think that the argument that "we should burn down the house and sort it all out afterwards!" is pretty useless, but I appreciate a well reasoned discussion, and I think that there is a place for it, albeit an argument to fire Coach Barnes right now certainly goes against the current of his just winning Big 12 Coach of the Year and our seemingly having a future so bright, "We gotta wear shades!"

FYI Elijah Thomas put out a top ten in basketball, and we are on it. He's a five star and a few people actually think he's the best player in Texas. If we pull both Thomas and Turner, good luck guarding our bigs for a few years. Thomas is in the 2015 class.

Also, I talked with a few of my friends that are in AAU circles. They don't think Turner will be a one and done. Based on some his fathers comments to AAU coaches, they actually think he's going to stay in school for a couple years. Not sure how that impacts recruiting, but something that should be known.

While we are waiting on any news on Myles Turner, I found this new article profiling him. It is by Peter Bean on SB*Nation. It was dated yesterday. I like this quote.

"For now and the immediate future, he's going to continue to have flashes where he looks like a grossly oversized guard."

And then there is this quote.

"Add it all up, and what do we have? We've got the allure of a winning season by a young team that will be back in full next year; we've got professionals like Kevin Durant and Lamarcus Aldridge telling Myles Turner that Texas is a great place to play for fulfilling his NBA ambitions; we've got the Godfather of Texas basketball (John Lucas) and his son validating Barnes and Texas as an attractive destination for Turner and his goals; and we've got the final word.

By God, I believe that's the return of, yes... positive momentum. We've got a lot going in our favor with Turner, and I'm optimistic that this is a battle we're primed to win."

Preach it Brother Bean! ;)

This is worth watching. Hard worker and good student.

Thanks for the video, Randell Weatherall Jr. Shows a bit of the kid's character. Now, I really want this young man to commit to Texas ... you know, so his family can have an easier time seeing him play while he is here! ;) Well, OK! I will admit that I have some ulterior motives! ;)

Myles Turner Tweet:

Great visit to Texas! Can't wait for the McDonald's All American Game! Leave tommorow! ✈️

apparently, but I do not know. he posts occasionally on OB.
I saw that and have asked him on OB if he's bailed on Hornsports. He doesn't respond. Kind of a crappy thing to do to this site if that's the case.

I really enjoyed that video. That level of maturity in a high school student is impressive. Obviously I hope he ends up at Texas but I'll be rooting for him regardless of where he ends up.

Turner is wearing number 35 at the McDonald's All American game. There was a big time player that wore 35 at Texas, who happens to also be Turner's favorite player. Let's hope this is an omen.

I saw that somewhere on another forum discussing Texas basketball issues. I was amazed that they wuz making a big deal that the number 35 that was worn by Kevin at Texas was retired already. so that must mean that he was not coming to Texas since he wouldn't get to wear that number ... and some other guy wuz saying that they were maroons! That Myles wuz smart enough to know that Kevin's 35 has done been retired and he would have to choose another number unless he really wanted to wear 35 because Kevin wore it, and if'n that wuz the case, he might have to go somewhere else for his year of pretending that he iz Kevin Durant in college basketball ... so, I took a nap and I had visions of Andy Griffith expostulating about his first experience with the glory of American Football ...

Now, don't you dare get mad at me, utisdabomb12, as I am as bored as you probably are with the lack of information regarding Mr. Turner's recruitment, and I am just a tad bemused at how my pulse tends to quicken at the mere suggestion that there might be any bit of information regarding such. In the meantime, until we get us some more info, I will return to my previous analytical observations and critical analysis of world events! I saw "300: Rise of an Empire" yesterday and I must tell you that ... huh? Whut? Why, yes, Honey! I'll get right to it! ... Sorry! As, Roseanne Roseannadanna once said, "Nevermind!" ;)
