Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Opening night in baseball. Texas vs. #7 Arkie.  Starting bottom 5th inning it's  0-0.  L. Gordon has 6 strikeouts with 84 pitches, I believe.  It'son Flonetwork or some unknown streaming company. Listening through texassports.com with Craig Way.

Well crap. The top of the 7th, Arkie sends all 9 batters up, getting 3 runs on  hits.

L. Gordon the starting pitcher for Texas went 5 innings with 6 strikeouts only 2 hits 0 runs on 84 pitches. But LBJ  and the 2nd bullpen pitcher let Arkie off the hook.

We are playing freshmen at 1st and 3rd base.

Didn't realize that they had put timers on both pitchers and batters.

Bottom of the 7th 3-0 damn pigs.

Going to the 8th. It's now 3-2.  Porter Brown (TCU transfer, I believe) home run and the 2nd bullpen pitcher for Arkie bounces a ball for a wild pitch allowing for the 2nd run.

Final. #6/7 Arkie 3- Texas 2.

Texas had several chances in the 6th and 8th, but failed to bring guys in that were either on 2nd and/or 3rd with 2 or less outs.

Game 2: On Saturday afternoon at 3PM against Missouri.

I think there's good reason to think Red will flourish at RB. He's got quicks, thick tree stump thighs, good speed, smart. I can't wait to see him run the ball.

I think the Roschon experiment was successful enough to try it again. This could be bigger than Roschon was.

The move was made because 1) They want to see what they have in him at RB, and 2) PT was going to be an issue at WR.

I'm not real optimistic about Jaydon Blue. Baxter will be a stud though.
I agree with part of what you are saying, but let's also remember that Brooks was limited in the bowl game due to injury that required sirgery if not mistaken.  So, put in at RB where I believe he sometimes played in HS as well as several other positions.

The WR room would be difficult to see much playing time if the others are healthy.

Also, agree on whether or not if Blue stays. Baxter being the #1 RB in the nation and an early enrollee could be a big factor in the RB room.

I'm firmly in the Brooks fan club and think he should be our primary RB this season. He's proven it on the field.

I agree that Brooks should and probably will be the #1 RB going into fall camp and starting the season, but he was hurt prior to the bowl game thus the limited touches and the K. Rob. start in the bowl game. If he isn't healthy for spring practice then why not move Red there to see what he can do there plus if Blue leaves then Red and Baxter will see time at the RB position next season.

Hope Red's move is for spring only. Had high hopes for him at WR. Reminds me of Baylor's WRS under Briles.

Brooks had an operation and has plenty time to recover. Both RB and WR rooms were perfect in numbers before Red moved.

Will get interesting during spring training, and portal moves after spring game.

I figure between Blue looking like he may look elsewhere and Brooks being hurt that is why Red was moved. Did Red burn his shirt last year? If he did this may not be a good move for him. Position switches are a 50/50 affair.

Game 2 in baseball:

Missouri: 4

Texas:3

Through 5.  Z. Morehouse started, went 4 innings giving 3 Earned runs and 1 unearned run, 82 pitches, 8 hits and 4/5 strikeouts.

Tough start to whatmight be a long season.
I went to game 1 vs Arkansas.    Don’t expect to see a team that resembles last year what-so-ever.  The power / offense just isn’t there.  On a positive note, pitching looked pretty good.

Bold proclamation after 1 game?  Yes - take with a grain of salt.

Missouri loss was bad, but I can deal with losses to Vandy and Arky, though I’d rather it be a little more competitive against Vandy like they did against Arkansas.

12-2 4  errors in one inning. Then team is young only 2 seniors.

Then softballhas only 1 senior and a better record.

Horns ppear to have 2 good lefties in relief.

To me young is no excuse, LL high school they have played before.
