Game Day: #15 Texas Longhorns @ Arkansas Razorbacks

When a team can make you one dimensional then it’s going to be a long night. Arkansas defense stopped the run and made Texas one dimensional. That’s usually a whole football game is the offense wants to establish the run and the defense wants to stop the run and make them throw. Because you know when you throw 3 things can happen and 2 of them are bad ?.  Briles offense spreads you out where you can’t stack the box and runs out of it. That’s why offensive line is so important so that you can force the run.  I think down there on the goal line when we ran it up the middle and kept getting stacked up, Sark was trying to send a message to his offensive line. He was used to being able to smash people back at Alabama. It’ll be interesting to see the offensive line moving forward. Teams saw that crap last night and we’ll keep seeing the same thing over and over again until we can do something about it.  Watch what Patterson does in two weeks.
So in other words, run it til it works?

Arkansas was playing their bowl game and it showed. Texas was caught reading press clippings.

Bottom line is we got whupped, an old fashion arse kicking. It will be interesting to see how the team responds next week.
First, I want to say that I hope Texas wins the conference. I think they are much more talented and a better team than they showed last night.

i was in high school when UA left the SWC and joined the SEC. For Arkansas fans, this is a rivalry built from nostalgia more than competitive play as the win/loss all time record is pretty lopsided in Texas favor.

Texas is not viewed as our bowl game. We reserve that for Alabama, LSU and Georgia. The Texas game is important to our fan base for recruiting purposes and bragging rights. That’s it.

P.S. we view OU and Texas the same way.

Good comment but no you have to do what moves the chains. I’m sure you’ve heard of teams that throw the ball and then that sets up coming back to the run. But Arkansas wasn’t going to let Bijan beat them. They would rather put the game in a QB’s hands that’s in his second game with not many proven receivers. As I said we’ll see this the rest of the year.  Offensive line needs to play better, QB’s need to play better, receivers and Coaches.  We’ll see what if any adjustments in two weeks in Fort Worth

Until the OL becomes dominant, we won't see any real improvement. On defense, there is still no one to get after the QB, they get no pass rush. Can't remember the last guy that had over 10 sacks in a season.
Yes on defense we’re using these smaller guys as edge rusher. You’d like to see them get home more because we’re giving up alot of size. You got a 320 lb tackle blocking on a 240-250 edge rusher. If the tackle gets them turned it leaves a big running lane. I did see Collins in there more snaps last night. I’m sure PK will get the best combo figured out. Zach Evans had a bunch of yards yesterday so you can bet they are going to try to pound the run

My comment was really about the message to the OL bit.  About the run the play three times in a row….

i understand how playcalling works, which is why I was severely upset at the play calls last night.  Sometimes they have you figured out (Pittman said as much at half), and the same plan was stuck with.  A TE under the safeties on first down would’ve set up  2nd and short a lot last night.  After the first couple of 3 and outs it was evident  AND obvious what Arkansas was going to do.  They wanted Card in 3rd and long all night.  It worked.  Odom kicked Sark’s ass both halves.

I was surprised Sark didn’t get Card some quick throws to get them to back out a little bit.  We got some guys that can be dangerous in space.  I guess it’s easy to call plays from my couch but i agree Odom got the best of him and they were more physical.

Card is at his best on quick short passes.

Question Texas is runing a 2-4-5 defence. Looks more like a 3-3-5 to me just wondering what others see.

It was obvious to the world after last week's game that the OL was awful yet plays are called as if we have five 5*s across the line. Do we have another mensa as head coach ?

The reason we lost is pretty straight forward... Card had a bad game. The offense went from one-dimensional to having no dimensions at all.

Anyone who thinks play calling was supect ignored the tons of wide open WRs that Card missed throws or didn't see. He didn't show much pocket presence and ran towards danger, making a 3 man rush look unstoppable.  In that situation he needs to take off or roll out, but stepping up right into a tackler is not an option. They were daring him to throw or run, and in too many situations he did neither.

He certainly wasn't helped by drops and general bad luck. There were some drops right in the hands of receivers. A couple of throws Card didn't have great placement, but WRs also didn't make good adjustments to the ball. No one wanted to make a play last night. Once bad play and bad luck start in a hostile stadium, it can get into the heads of an inexperienced team.

There were some bad calls that may have helped change momentum, but those weren't calls that affected gameplay. It's just a situation hoping the refs would save us. Also difficult to criticize the defense for not pitching a shutout, waiting for the offense to make a first down.

To be clear... starting your second game at arkie is a tough assignment. The long term view is last night's experience weill help Card down the road. The short term view is starting Casey would likely have resulted in a much better offensive performance. It's too soon yet to know which was right call.

seriously...Arky flat stuffed us.....but they did not "stack the box" against us...they did not sell out to stop the run. They did that by rushing 3 and running a few stunts. We should have been able to run against that front, but we could not. That left 4 defensive backs unbothered to blanket the receivers. I am not sure why our line could not block well Saturday, but they just kept getting beat. Frankly Arkys defense did the same thing to Sark last year when he had the Alabama line blocking for him. Bama was too strong for Arky, but they were held to their lowest yards total for the year and their lowest yds per play for the year.

Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the other guy for out scheming you.

Pittman said he rushed 4 in first half. Switched to 3 in second half.

Sark hab a good news conference and covered all mistakes. Wath bothers me is he said Texas did not play to thier capeability. Gave no credit to hogs be the reason they did not

Read a lot of posts and opinions most agree Texas is not SEC ready stomped bu a middleweight.

This from 24/7 You can recruit all the skill positions you want. But if you do not have the beef up front, youmight as well be playing 7 on 7 football.

Rings true to me,

There were times they rushed 3 but they were a bunch of times they were shooting LBers and hitting our RB in the back field. Bringing more people than we had to block so several were free. I tip my cap earlier to Odom that he got the best of Sark.

It looked to me like Card was trying to make the big play in the passing game is why he didn't tuck the ball and run more when things broke down. I love that he is keeping his eyes downfield but last night he needed to force the secondary to account for him. Thompson did a much better job of realizing the OL was not able to hold blocks long and getting positive yards when things fell apart. Card may get there but Thompson is the guy we need with the current OL.IMO
Card is not fast. He looked like he was running in mud last night. He did try to run a time or two and it just didn't produce because Arkansas defenders had no trouble staying with him.
