I can remember when Texas recruits would rise in standings after commiting. Now they seem to fall in rankings after commiting.
Mack liked to be done with recruiting by the December football banquet. Lits of the recruits would gain a star. Drove the gaggies nuts.

Good ole Mack could recruit. Could win 10 games most yearsjust could not win the conference.

Our seasons always took a turn for the better AFTER the OU game.
Mack had an amazing ability to get a team back up after a devastating (at times embarrassing) loss to our arch rival.... a double edged sword wrapped in a backhanded compliment.

You can continue to be amazed. Nobody will know why.

See my post on the NFL draft stats on 5-stars, 4-stars and 3-stars.

Its pretty even. If it mattered that much, they'd never be even. We'd have a 1st round with nothing but 5-stars. But thats not the reality.
If you look at the current roster table for Texas (thanks Tfloss) you will notice that there is only one position group that doesn't have high 4* or 5* talent and that is the OL. They have a couple of mid 4*'s, 1 high 4* and the rest are low 4 and high 3*.  However, that appears to be the only group.  Obviously this team is not elite like Bama, Clemson or Ohio State in terms of 5* rated talent, but on paper they're very competitive with everyone on the next level in rated players. Coach them up and see what happens.

Mack was the perfect example of how to utilize camps. Back in the day more kids would show up to Mack's summer camps than Texas Relays. The stand outs would get offers that afternoon and would commit on the spot.

Those were the days when we'd get several commits a weekend. Force the recruiting sites to reevaluate the player and see why they missed. Then give us a bump!

I remember one weekend I think we had Ryan Palmer, Ramonce Taylor, Rashad Bobino, Chris Ogbonnaya, Peter Ullman, Drew Kelson, and I'm sure a few others I'm forgetting all commit the same day after a camp.

I found myself wishing we could rent a head coach for a week to play OU back then.

Nobody in their right mind would choose to have a roster of mostly 3-stars. Nobody has attempted to make that case. You defeated a point nobody made. lol

Funny how every school you named have three-star players in their classes right now.

But if you're attempting to tell us that you have better evaluations on players than say Sark or Pete Kwiatkowski or Terry Joseph – that's gonna be a tough sell.

NFL 2021 draft by recruit ranks

5 star 8

4 star 10

3 star 9

2 star 4

Ronald Lewis is a three-star 6'1, 175lb corner with freakish ability to turn his hips and had eight interceptions last season and has the versatility to play safety down the line.
That’s not as even as it seems. There are only 32 5 stars players, there are around 400 4 star players and about a 1,200 3 stars. The hit rate is much greater on the higher star guys.

Same difference . . .

Shouldn't the first 32 picks be 5-stars then?

Why aren't they?

Edorian McCollough

I'll take that bet right now, as you wrote it. I want to put $1K on it.

Penn State won't end up with the top class. And as you said, you think they will.

Everybody seeing this bet?

Yeah you know I mean they won't have the #1 class. LMAO..    But yeah you know my point...
