Fortunately the practices are more important than the game when it comes to evaluation.

RE Shaka Smart

I was told today that there is no "buy out" in the contract. Its a guaranteed contract. So we would need to pay the remainder of the contract, and the remainder of the assistant's contracts – then spend money on the new coach and staff.

If your eye is on Beard, we'd then have to pay his buyout in order to have him, in addition to what was listed above.

That's around $20-$23 million spent to have a new coach.

Would Texas spend that much on basketball?

THE BIG 12'S 5 BEST DEFENSES: LONHORNS' ALAMO BOWL SHOWING AN ENCOURAGING SIGN FOR 2020?

3. Texas

Texas’ defense in 2019 wasn’t great. It ranked seventh in the Big 12, allowing 27.5 points per game overall. But it really showed off in that huge 38-10 bowl win over Utah. And Texas might be returning more defensive pieces than anyone else. As Athlon Sports notes, 17 of the top 20 tacklers on the roster will be back for the new season. UT also added an experienced defensive mind in Chris Ash to be the defensive coordinator. The Longhorns had just 27 sacks last season, but top tackler Joseph Ossai, who had five of those sacks, is set to return. Brandon Jones is the biggest loss defensively.

Juwan Mitchell entering Transfer Portal. Guess he just wasn’t happy.
Hopefully, the portal will not stop at College Station.

2020 Heisman Buy and Sell

Sell: Texas QB Sam Ehlinger (14/1) -- Ehlinger received a fair bit of Heisman pub last offseason after accounting for 41 touchdowns in 2018. He accounted for a still-cool 39 touchdowns this past fall, but that mark came with 10 picks (up from five the previous season) on an 8-5 team. Ehlinger’s not sniffing New York if Texas turns in another campaign like that. And if we’re being honest, we don’t really see a 10-win season in 2020. If we’re being honest, we think the hot seat talk for HC Tom Herman is going to start to ramp up. That’s where we see the Longhorns at this juncture. If Ehlinger was sitting at 21/1 or worse, we might be enticed into taking a flier. 14/1? Hard pass.
