Herman to LSU

What about Bill O'BRIAN...

He's likely getting canned after this year.

Is he Texas good?

I wonder if Saban or Meyer would have done a complete tear down?

I'm guessing not.
I agree! But I also believe that would have meant keeping most of the "bad apples" Charlie rid the program of in order to maintain a higher talent level and to produce a quicker "winning" result.  But ridding this program of those players in order to create a higher moral standard, even at the cost of winning, is part of what sets Strong apart from other college coaches (read Briles). And sacrificing those "wins" in an effort to produce better men made/makes him the man for the job currently. Now, if the talent he continues to stockpile doesn't begin to produce CONSISTENT on field results, then Strong has served his time, done all he could do, and it would be time to replace him with someone who can take this talent and have it translated to the field of play.

Dbut brings up several good points. Everyone says Saban and Meyer would have done this and that and we'd be winning. Agree 100%. Problem is that they were never coming and aren't here now. That fundamentally is the reason that Charlie should be given a 4th year. Once he was hired, the arrogant BMDs that didn't get their guy threw a fit and were on Charlie's back before he even set foot on the 40. Last year after he justifyingly cleaned house, his job was questioned right away. Year 2!! Who does that?? I can't think of a single guy that he got rid of that did anything productive with his 2nd chance elsewhere. I could be wrong. Not to mention Patterson holding the purse strings and not giving Charlie the appropriate resources to succeed. Granted Charlie made mistakes in his hires and is not without fault. I'm for leaving him alone and see how he finishes the year. He has done it the right way with high character players and is on the verge of his best class, but he does need to win. I hope he does enough to get his 4th year. If he hasn't done enough by this time next year to earn a new contract, then let's go shopping.

What is enough for Charlie to earn that fourth year? Six wins? Eight wins?

Successful Coaches and programs take advantage of their Off Season training to evaluate and improve the areas of weakness. One problem I have with Charlie is he seems to waste the valuable time provided by an Off Season  to not address anything just hopes the players improve because they will be a year older. Then we get into the third or fourth game of the season and all of sudden it becomes obviouse that we need to make a change with our DC  or like the year before we are going to make a change with our OC .  Then the change  that is made is done so because Perrin has probably demanded it, because I truely believe that Charlie would not have made any changes if it were not for the searing heat that he is feeling when he tries to sit in the Coaches seat that is now oh so hot.  I just sit and think all of those Spring practices, opportunities to evaluate film of last years defense and to make changes during March and April , but not September!!!! Your a Defensive Coach , but for some reason you were blind to what was in front of you!  I just do not trust Charlie's eyes anymore folks to judge the progress of our team and to see the areas that must be addressed.  I will say if Charlie does get a fourth year I want it to be a successful one but just as we did for the offensive side of the ball , now we need to do the same for the defensive side of the ball. We would need to hire a damn good Defensive Coordinator and one that gets not only the fans excited but the recruits as well. A guy who can tell a young recruit that we will be champions and I can get you to the next level if that is what you desire.  I just do not know who that person would be and I will let others make their suggestions. That is my suggestion if Charlie is to stay.

Close games are lost due to poor in game decisions. Too many to count. He has lost us quite a bit of games. When the refs had to tell him to not decline a penalty i gave up on him. Too see that caught on national television is embarrassing.

Who knows what the powers that be are thinking, but hope is that this team gets to 8 wins, even if that means 7-5, plus a bowl victory.

In the spirit of fairness, Charlie Strong has 17 losses on his scorecard at Texas.  Of those, 10 are by 18+ points.

I don't think that the losses in close games are the major issue.

So the majority of Texas' losses under Charlie have been by 18+ points...that makes me feel

SO much better...hate those close losses!

SHL - you know I trust what you where told completely, but I have heard a little differently.  And only because of the instability at UT.

Herman covets our beloved Horns - LSU is only plan B assuming he is interested in leaving UH at all.

The USC job is looking much less open by the week. I think he righted the ship.
