2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

The key is the site has a lot of readers compared to posters. The simple fact is that lots of those readers desire recruiting information...and a 172-page thread is intimidating.

This doesn't have to be complicated and shouldn't diminish anyone's enjoyment of the site. Seems to me that the progression is:

1. Have a weekly recruiting thread

2. As an individual prospect gets close to a decision, a thread could be started on that prospect (instead of putting tons of frequent updates in the weekly thread on said prospect)

3. Once a recruit commits and there is an announcement thread, commitment story, or scouting report, then updates for that player should funnel to one of those threads instead of the weekly thread

It's not a significantly different convention than the one used now other than starting weekly threads instead of a yearly thread. And once a thread on an individual player is started, it should be an easy place for everyone to go to get information on that player.

Why is a 172-page thread intimidating? If they desire recruiting information as you say, I would think they are keeping up like the rest of us.

Who is locking this thread....I have been looking at this thread from the 1st day or page every day and now I got to go to 5 or 6 threads per day....man you mods are hard on a old man. What I learned in college is that this is not good math.

Most readers and posters are going to go to the most recent page because that is where the most up to date information is.  If I just now found this board, I'm not going to page 1 of this thread because I know the information is old news.

To me, the weekly thread will be the same as this current thread after 6 days of posting. 

I say leave this thread as is and once a recruit commits, start a new thread on that individual.  Another idea would to "pin" a thread as a check off list of recruits.  One that lists the last 10 or so recruits that Texas has a good chance of landing.

It's not like I'm leaving this site based on what happens with this thread because I believe the best posters for Texas football are located at Hornsports.

Sirhornsalot, I totally respect your postion (and you as a poster) as well as the others and I most certainly will not say that you don't have valid points.

My problem with this thread is that any discussion on specific recruits or recruiting subjects within this thread are very disjointed and hard to follow as multiple conversations are overlapping and you end up looking across multiple pages in many cases just to follow a conversation that your are interested in. It is like being in a crowded room with several conversations going on at once. Heck, this very discussion about the changes is a perect example. Here we have several announcements and discussions going on and this discussion popping up in between them.

Now if you take what Matt is trying to say is there are also a lot of readers, actually more that read than post, and it is difficult to follow. Obviously you are not going to hear their voiced opinions, because they don't post. So it makes sense that primarily one side is getting heard in this discussion.

So while I get your point, I think you might be missing that there are a bunch of people, maybe more than those that share your opinon, that don't like this format.

I am a reader who seldom posts.  I like this method of keeping up  with the latest recruiting news, rumors, etc.  I don't thnk its a big deal to have to look through the numerous pages dedicated to this thread.   IMO, it should stay as is. 

Please keep the updates coming (preferably in this thread!).

Matt - I will offer this. If you want to re think how HS approaches recruiting information I suggest that you don't change everything until after NSD.

What HS is doing is essential asking it's "members" to go about getting their information in a different method in what is arguably the most important time in the recruiting process for the 2015 class.

By waiting until after NSD you will have time to come up with something that is innovative and presents the information in a more organized way. 

HS currently has two drop downs related to recruiting. One under the Recruiting tab that hasn't' been updated since October and still shows Malik as undecided. The other under the the Football drop down that lists the 2014 recruiting class as opposed to the current class.

Before you ask your "members" to change you might want to think about keeping the site updated with current information in the areas that are already dedicated to recruiting.

Just my thoughts. Love the site.

I think in general we've had break out threads on recruits who commit, largely because there are lots of aspects to talk about at that time. How the kid reacted, how charlie & co reacted, parents feedback, how it all played out, yada yada yada. Its interesting and deserves its own thread.

I've been involved in these updates and can say that they're all over the place. It works well with this format. Chitown has some good thoughts while Hornesch, you're going to have overlapping conversations regardless of the format, even in a thread dedicated to one single recruit. Not sure how you avoid that. I just learned to navigate it.

I don't want to sound like I'm put out with HS. I'm not, I love it here and would go along with whatever they want to do. I like Matt a lot and see that he's brought some stability to the site. He's a very sharp guy who is on the ball. But you know me, I have to speak my mind. harrrr

I think waiting until after NSD would be a very smart move. We are so close that changing up right now at this moment would not be a good thing. And this is coming from someone whoe like the idea of weekly versions as opposed to a year long one.

That gives HS a good time to try a new format early in the reruiting year and if it does not work, then we can always go back.

I think there are valid points on both sides and right now is just not the time to hash that all out.

I agree with you that the discussion nonspecific recruits is very disjointed but that is the case on most sites. This is where the opportunity exists for HS to become a leader in Texas recruiting discussions. 

Unfortunately this is a longer term dev project that HS needs to look at.
