I agree. It feels as though the Horns are regressing while others are getting better. It all falls on Sark and Ewers. I'm not a college football coach, but I can tell you what is coming with this offense. If I can see it then you know others that study film can see it.After watching our offense sputter along for the 3rd straight game and seeing freaking agg pummel lsu in the 2nd half Sark needs to figure something out.
If things don't get fixed Nov 30th will be the biggest nightmare imaginable.
The way
Watching the games with Arch, you can see a different aspect of this offense. They challenged down field more which opened the run. I don't know if it's the play call or Quinn's reads, but I would bet it's the reads. Quinn seems hesitant to throw into, let's say, not wide open spaces and is quick to check down. Maybe Sark doesn't have the confidence in Quinn throwing over 30 yards. Either way, something needs to change to maximize all the potential of this team.
Texas won this game because they held Vandy toVandy leads the SEC in:
-3rd down conversion rate
-Time of Possession
-Turnover Margin
Offensively, Texas wins this game if they establish the run. Everything else revolves around that.
Texas won this game because they held Vandy to
- terrible 3rd down percentage, 3/12 (1/4 on 4th down)
- won time of possession
- won turnover battle - 2 vs 3
Three of the coaches I was most excited to have on Staff: Sark (quasi QB Coach / play caller); Flood (OL) and Banks (Special Teams), are all underperforming on gameday.I agree. Dare I say, "exclusively" on defense?Prior to this game, Vandy was cconverting on 60% of their third down attempts.
Prior to this game, Vandy had two turnovers on the year. They had three against Texas.
We did do some good things, particularly on defense.
Is there a rational explanation why our passing game is almost exclusively short sideways passes, often behind the line of scrimmage? An honest question.
While you're solving that mystery for me - we also have developed a proclivity to run the ball sideways the overwhelming majority of the time. Why?
-Quinn is scared/nervous. This has been on display in the pocket plenty. He's not a confident QB right now.Is there a rational explanation why our passing game is almost exclusively short sideways passes, often behind the line of scrimmage? An honest question.

Agree. This affects the offense and the whole team. Not only that, it affects Dr. Pepper commercials (not needing backup).-Quinn is scared/nervous. This has been on display in the pocket plenty. He's not a confident QB right now.
While its parts of Sark's offensive scheme it seems to be overused mainly because Quinn cannot push the ball down the field. His range is 0-20 yards. With no deep threat defenses can play up and negate a lot of these types of passes. Sark depends on YAC. Take the YAC away from Quinn's numbers and his pass yards per game would be some of the lowest in the country. Look at the long balls that Arch has completed in the 2.5 games he has played in. There is a stark contrast between him and Quinn. IMO Arch gives you more versatility but Quinn has more experience. People will have to decide for themselves which they deem more important. Is there a rational explanation why our passing game is almost exclusively short sideways passes, often behind the line of scrimmage? The evil spirit who used to possess Greg Davis has taken possession of Sark. We are doomed. Is there a rational explanation why our passing game is almost exclusively short sideways passes, often behind the line of scrimmage? An honest question.
