"So long as they stay on the current path, the Longhorns will have the top class in the Big 12. Anything more than that depends completely on what they do in the left-hand column. Vahe, Major, Johnson and Omenihu alone will give this class a boost as it climbs the rankings. Agreed, but RD has a point when he questioned why UT needs to win to have recruiting success.  Why doesn't aggie?  Will their ballyhooed commits stay firm if they roll over to 4-8 or 5-7?

That's my biggest question.  Not that I'm questioning CFS's player evaluations or strategy.

The meltdowns will continue, no doubt. I understand people's concerns because, on paper, we're getting our ass kicked. On the field is where we can turn the tide back in our favor.

There is no question in my mind that a poor record by a$m and continued putrid defense, coupled with a good showing from Texas on the filed, will turn the tide in recruiting and cause some decommits in aggyland. They have a huge head-start no doubt, and will likely sign a good class regardless, but the storyline of the season has yet to be written and it will no doubt be a game changer. 

If Texas struggles and a$m does well....then we are pretty screwed.

I just don't see a Charlie Strong coached team losing many games.  Can we lose a close one here and there?  Certainly, but I don't see him losing control of the team, and I don't see him losing control of a game.

I remember Darrell Royal coached teams playing more highly ranked Switzer squads and beating the Land Thieves with a goal line stand.  Bless Mack for bringing us a title, but it has been a while since I've seen that type of play in DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.  (Warning:  If anyone tries to tell me it's due to a different type of offense, get ready, I will not hold back.)

Too many people today over-analyze and over-intellectualize the game.  Hello!  Start with a Bad-A offensive and defensive line, then build from there.  I don't think you can win a title with intellectual midgets or with mercenaries.  I believe that the team needs leadership, passion, a hard-nosed attitude, self-discipline, maturity, good instincts, a good game plan, and a little bit of luck.  They can succeed without some ingredients but not without the hard-nosed attitude, self-discipline, leadership, and passion.

Building a team to compete for a title isn't easy, but Strong knows how to do it.  He's getting it done!

Sad but true. . . 

I spent 4 days in time out for "questioning OB posters intelligence" so hopefully I can make a disparaging comment here about the lack of critical thinking among many longhorn fans and not be banned. . . .

We're 7 months + from signing day .. . .and trust me. . . .unless aggie starts making some real headway in the division (keep in mind Mizzu already has more football skins on the wall) .. . . the swag copter crap will get old fast. . . .

PS,

One "in the know" guy who's a friend says don't be shocked when Charlie flips one or two of the kids the agroids are crowing about ... . 

He's got some surprises up his sleeve.

My dad talked constantly about his football player when Mom was pregnant.  The day I was born, his former coach gave him...a megaphone!  

It hasn't diminished my enthusiasm at all.  I still love football, and Tommy Nobis was one of Dad's favorite players, but a little before my time.  I do remember sitting in the knothole, though!

She had a blast... I asked her about Moorer and she said he worked them in the weight room and was serious. She also said he was friendly. .. but would not smile even when they tried to get him to smile. The first thing she told me was she is going back next year....

It's all relative. If you don't look at it through burnt orange lenses, Aggie is "winning" on the field...

2. The 2012 record

3. Their last 2 years compared with Sherman/Fran era

4. Their last 2 years compared with UT's last 3 years

I agree that Sumlin hasn't won anything of substance (especially considering the talent that's been at his disposal over the last 2 years), but to say that A&M hasn't been winning is a stretch.

CFB is all about perception, and the perception is that the Ag's have been winning. In some respects, it's true. In some, not so much.

3. Aggy will probably lose at least 6 games this year

4. They have not won anything

5. They finished 4th in their own division

They are recruiting well because of the ridiculous good fortune of everything that has happened since they arrived in the SEC. They are not recruiting well because they are winning a ton of games. They are trading on momentum from Manziel, beating Bama 2 years' ago, 3 first round draft picks, and "Coach Cool." They are also taking advantage of the 4 years of mediocre football from Texas, the ugly divorce from Mack Brown, uncertainty of a new staff and system, and the perception that the Big 12 is a joke. This can all change if the season plays out the way it should. But if it doesn't, we are likely in deep, as you said.

You and MBHORNSFAN are absolutely right - it's all about perception (aided by ESPN and CBS hype). But, to address your points with my patented burnt orange glasses.

1. A fluke win where everything broke right for the aggies. Bama played an OT night game with LSU the previous week.  I think they were flat and emotionally spent, but aggie won the game. Kudos to them. Overall record versus ranked SEC teams is 1-6, right?
2. "Special" 2012 team was buoyed by two FCS wins; Sam Houston and South Carolina State. I won't get into how JFF padded his stats against inferior competition. It's well-documented.
3. No argument.  Aggie underachieved under both coaches.  "Coach Cool" Sumlin did benefit from Sherman's talented players, especially the offensive line. 
4. Why are we comparing aggie's last 2 years with UT's last 3?
