every time that i go, there is always something better to do​

wind surfing on the beach, riding camels around the beach, sailing, beach volleyball, relaxing, sleeping​

and meeting so very many beautiful people from throughout this great big world, huge water park, great food everywhere,​

great shopping everywhere, great hotels everywhere, fun fun fun fun fun!​

1. Aruba. Honeymoon, 1987.

Realized then and there that I did not like being outside of the United States.

2. Playa Del Carmen. Vacation, 2002.

Topless beaches are not supposed to make you want to hurl. Sixty-year old German women with no tops changes everything. I mean everything.

Also, was forced to leave the water (wife and I were skinny dipping) about midnight by a military guy with a machine gun. Once I'm dressed, he explains that he did me a favor. Predator fish feed at night and SOME THINGS on my body might look like a nice, well, meal.

I actually thanked him, despite the embarrassment we went through.

Chesterman Beach, Tofino, British Colombia.

You can rent a house on the island in the second photo.  You loose access to the island during high tide.

The Wickaninnish Inn at the north end of the Beach (left side of the beach in the second photo) has a restaurant, bar and lounge over the rocks at water's edge, from which you can watch Pacific storms when there is one.

We were there the first week in September, and, yes it was cold.  But not so cold that you could not role up your pant legs and stroll in the surf - cold but exhilarating!

I cannot remember the name of the place, but there is an Italian seafood place run by a Jewish-Italian emigrant from Italy by way of Philadelphia, that had some of the freshest and best prepared Dungeness crab that I have ever eaten in my life.  Tofino lies kind of in the middle of the range of the Dungeness crab up and down the Pacific coast.

Galveston - 2014.

Year before last we visited Galveston from Christmas to New Years.  Galveston is actually a pleasant place to visit when all the tourists are gone and Christmas and New Years is a great time for that.  You pretty much get the beach to yourself.  It is a different kind of beach from destination beaches, but it is easy to get to from Austin if you need a quick fix of salt sea air, and the sound of waves crashing the beach.

Puka Beach in Boracay, Phillipines.  It's not as crowded as White Beach on the main strip.  Secluded and beautiful waters.

These are the best beaches where I have personally stuck my toes in the sand --
 
 
(1) Trunk Bay, St Johns  Trust me, the BEST approach is by sailboat.  Mongoose run loose in the park areas - waiting for you to leave some food or trash out (i.e. they killed all the snakes off along time ago)

 
 
 
(2) Manuel Antonio Park, CR -- this is national park in Costa Rica. The trees have monkeys and 3-toed tree sloths.  There are anteaters walking along the sand on the beach (they will get in your stuff while you are in the water, but you can't "pet" them).  There is even a small right-handed surf break inside the park that breaks all day long (you can sort of make it out in this foto at the very top far left - see the whitewater).  And, oh yeah, there are some Palm Trees that lean over so far their leaves touch the sand) 

 
 
 
(3) Cinque Terre, IT (this place is unbelievable)

(4) The South Coast of France - this may be too common and touristy for you guys, but this area in general is beautiful.  I had some wonderful times here.  One of the greatest places to ride a motorcycle or scooter along a winding coastal road I have ever seen (probably works for bicycle too).  I met a fantastic Aussie chick on the topless beach here, and we Vespa'ed all up and down the coastline.  Will never forget it.  I even surfed off an island offshore for a few hours one day.

This is the beach at Cannes, where I met my friend.  Cheers mate.

(5) Puerto Escondido, MX  I spent part of my life here, surfing.  In chunks of time anywhere from 2-3 weeks to 2-3 months - over the course of 20 years or so.

Nha Trang, Vietnam.  Buying lobsters for $1 directly from the fishermen who caught them.  Brilliant emerald green island in the middle of the bay.  The beach would've been perfect, minus the concertina wire.

Some great Beaches in this thread and I've been to many. Yes, Cannes is especially nice. Bucket list for me is the Far East, Phillipines, Cambodia etc. I would also like to go to Australia.

For me, two.

Cane Garden Bay, BVI. If you've been, you know. Jimmy Buffett sings "I hear it gets better, that's what they say, as soon as we sail on to Cane Garden Bay."

Secondly, Waiainapanapa Beach on Maui. It's a black sand beach. Surreal. Sand as black as the eyes of the Great Whites just off the coast. Water is crystal clear and when you wade in your legs and feet stand out as if lit up on a movie set.

I should mention Cane Garden Bay is accessible only by boat and Waianapanapa only by Copter.

I'll add an honorable mention, Anaegada Reef, BVI.
