Hot Topic: Donald Sterling

Whether or not they give it to him once again really isn't the point, IMO. It's that they were prepared to honor this man publicly, I suppose for his efforts toward the betterment of black Americans - and now this.

It often amazes me how closely good and evil can reside.
It's simple, he bought the award. He was in trouble for being a slum lord and discriminating against black renters the first time he won. It's a local NAACP chapter that evidently, if you give enough money they will honor you.

Donald Sterling has been a POS for years, Silver and the other owners need to Marge Schott his ass out of the NBA. His actions are worst than his talk. He's not just a bad owner, he's a bad human being.  Here's a 2009 ESPN the magazine on Sterling worth reading.

I believe he has donated something like $15,000 annually to this particular chapter. Such a joke.

What he said was appalling.  I wonder what context he said it and why?

You know what else I find appalling?  My son listens to rap music and I kid you not, every other word is the "N" word.

Why isn't America and especially our black mothers & fathers appalled by this?
Are they saying "nigGER" or "nigGA" in their rap lyrics?  Apparently, there's a difference...

Good for Les.

Calling Sterling comments disgusting, Leslie Alexander seeks to drive him from NBA

Rockets owner Leslie Alexander’s goal was as clear as the anger and disgust in the tone of his voice. He had heard the recording of Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s racist and hateful comments. He had met with NBA commissioner Adam Silver. He wanted Sterling out the NBA.

Calling the comments “disgusting,†Alexander said he told Silver he should stab “a sword†into the heart of Sterling’s ownership of the Clippers.

“I thought that there’s got to be a way to disrupt him from owning the team,†said Alexander, who after 20 years owning the Rockets is one of the longest tenured owners in the NBA. “I gave him the sword to deal with this. I said, ‘Let the players become free agents.’â€

Alexander said the goal of his suggestion was not to break up the Clippers, considered among the league’s top teams, or even to punish Sterling. He said the objective was solely to back Sterling into a corner from which he will choose to sell the Clippers.

The NBA constitution does not allow the league owners to remove Sterling, Alexander said. But he added that the NBA needed to take steps to drive Sterling from the league.

“This kind of behavior can’t be allowed in the NBA by owners, players or anybody,†Alexander said. “This guy has no place in the family of the NBA. Whatever it takes, we have to make sure this kind of event never happens again.â€

The first step to ensuring that, he said, was to get Sterling out of the league.

“I mentioned that to Adam,†Alexander said. “I told Adam I don’t think he can be removed because the constitution (of the NBA) only allows him to be removed except for gambling. I’m not sure that legally can be done. But if he loses his players, nobody is going to want to go there. He’ll only be able to get a player that is worth $2 million and will play for $12 (million.) And who is going to want to coach there?

“If you’re a player in the NBA you don’t want to play for somebody like that. If you worked for a company, you would walk away and say, ‘I’m gone.†I think the players should have that right.â€

Alexander said he did not know what Silver would announce on Tuesday and that Silver did not say what actions he was considering, but did say that he would look into the feasibility and ramifications of Alexander’s suggestion.

“He listened to it,†Alexander said. “He said he hadn’t heard that before. He said to me, ‘You always give me a novel idea that I haven’t heard before.’ He told me he would look at it and see what the professionals around him think.â€

Though Alexander had referred to the NBA “family,†and said that he and Silver did discuss if there was anything that could have been done sooner to sanction or even remove Sterling, he was especially dismayed by the suggestion that he and other NBA owners are in any way represented by Sterling. Though they share inclusion in a 30-member club, and an even smaller group of owners with decades long place in the league, Alexander said theirs is more of a forced association.

“I’m really upset that some of the press has lumped us together as one,†Alexander said. “We are 30 different individuals and most of us are not even friends. We are business associates. To lump us together is beyond the pale.â€

Still, as “disgusting†as Alexander said Sterling’s comments were, there was something missing from his reaction that revealed much of what he thought of Sterling.

“I wasn’t,†Alexander said, “really surprised.â€

darrell, you are an educated man.  therefore, i am certain, that you are hereby more than acutely aware, that the overwhelming majority of black mothers, as well as black fathers, are more than appalled as per this behaviour.  but my great pal, when all is hereby said and done, at the very end of the day...  it is all about the "american eagle" aka "$$$money$$$!"

your son, is a white lad.  trendy, independent minded, loves to stay at the forefront of the now!  your son, may be equally disturbed, as per these awfully denigrating lyrics as per so very many rap songs...  but he, as well as his pals, do not think about fighting the establishments as per these labels...  they just participate upon the now, and enjoy the latest trends in music...  just like everyone else.

now, take a moment to combine your son, his pals, the trends, the now, the labels, the establishments, and along with the everyone elses, and what do you come up with...  "$$$money$$$!"

therefore, when all is hereby said and done, please know that yes..  black mothers, as well as fathers, are certainly appalled as per today's shocking, dangerous, and disturbing trends upon music, drugs, abuse, lack of jobs, lack of education, and everything else that is a constant contribution as per the denigration upon our society.  however,  it's just that currently, with so very much $$$money$$$ involved, there is not much they can do about it...  not yet anyway.

Monarch, it's interesting how you bring up money.

Apparently, money can buy you just about anything, including bigotry.

That same chapter of the NAACP comes out today and offers unconditional forgiveness to the Clippers' owner. This despite not offering the same forgiveness for more minor misgivings of others in the past. But this particular offender is loaded with money and has dumped great amounts of that money on that same NAACP chapter in past years.

This offer of forgiveness comes DESPITE - the owner having offered up NO APOLOGY and NO REQUEST FOR FORGIVENESS. They say this is the "Christian" thing to do. As a Christian, I call that hogwash. You accept the apology AFTER it's given and IF it's given with sincerity. Silently, you may already have that forgiveness. But you don't go pronounce that to the world before the "good" of the situation is allowed to develop, if it develops at all.

So it appears the NAACP simply positioned the situation whereby they could pick up the profitable relationship with the Clippers' owner.

I feel this is a huge injustice toward those, perhaps like your mother in Beaumont, who are more serious about the task they are taking on within the NAACP and also belittles the effort to be rid of this type of mentality. It's what the world did to South Africa until it changed it's ways.

Secondly, as we discussed, this isn't his first experience as a bigot. Was investigated and charged with regard to the subject in the past, but again was welcomed with open arms by the NAACP.

Like it or not, you've got the NAACP in bed with the bigot. This is absurd.

imo, the los angeles branch of the naacp, should hereby be disbanded.  along with a thorough housecleaning, before it's allowed to function at full strength again.  what a disgrace to the city of los angeles.  my mother is hereby speechless, she is beyond disgusted.
