2025 Baseball thread

Well, the staff has already a replacement for the Chamberlain departure via the portal, in Andrew Ermis. Will get some numbers on him a little later. They may have known that Chamberlain was leaving or they just want insurance with a little bit more experience.

Andrew Ermis is 6' 2" 210 lb. He bats and throw right handed. He play a couple of years at Temple College, a junior college. This past season his batting ave of .338 with 10 homers, 7 doubles, and 41 RBIs. He had 6 SB. He threw out 3 of 20 base runners. Also had 7 passed balls.

Nice offense, sounds like his defense needs work
I agree with you on that. Hopefully the staff works with the pitchers and him on reading base runners and knowing when and to which side of the base to throw the ball to on getting runners thown out.

A couple of notes I've seen from Baseball America and a couple of other sites on players in the portal. There is a LHP from Clemson and a RHP from Stadford that apparently the staff are trying to bring in to try to get them. Just have to wait and see on either if that happens.

The portal closes on Tuesday July 1st, unless there is a coaching change.

Then the draft on July 13th -- 15th. Then players have 30 days to decide whether to return to, or go to school or sign with the team drafting them. Outside of the 1st rd on ESPN 2 or one of their stations just have to either listen, read, or hear the draft on the stteaming/radio network.

Hey,
@tejasrulz any thoughts on the 2 young ladies that portalled in for the softball team. 1 from Arizona and now 1 from okie lite. Fells like they the staff filled a need or 2, but what are your thoughts. AGAIN ONLY ASKING TEJASRULZ, there are some that have a hard understanding that.

Thanks Baron.
Yes, Haiden Leffew a 6' 1 225 lb LHP. He has 59 strikeouts in 34.1 innings. But the ERA is up a little high. Only 3 HBP and 18 walks. But 17 of the 22 runs scored were ER.

For those interested, softball has added 3 transfers in and are likely set on roster numbers for next season (the softball portal is closed for entries).

This big name is Kaiah Altmeyer, an OF from Arizona. She was second team all Big 12 and slashed .365/.575/.478 this past season. She should make an immediate impact in the starting line up and be a welcome addition to an offense that struggled to be a threat at all 9 spots last year. She has 1 year remaining.

Freshmen pitcher Brenlee Gonzalez just transferred in from Tech. She only pitched 12 innings this past season. She had a 2.84 ERA. She was the 4th most used pitcher for Tech. I would not expect an instant impact here but Coach White may see something in her he hopes to develop over the next few seasons.

Taylor Anderson is a Utility player from Oklahoma State. In 2024 she was used frequently as a pinch runner (much more common in softball as starting players can be subbed for and then sub back in later) due to her speed. She played infrequently in the OF. She does not have stats for 2025 and I have not seen why (injury?). She has 3 years remaining, so likely a pinch running role at Texas and then some PT depending on development.

A high ERA with that kind of velocity may indicate he can be predictable. I think a good pitching coach can fix that. At any rate with that K/W ratio, he is worth the risk.

He played 2 years at Wake so hypothetically we could gave him for 2 years. He is on a good developmental curve it seems. Started his freshmen year as a starter before settling into a relief role. Last year it looks like all his appearances were in relief and maxed out at 3 innings but frequently between 1-2 innings of work a game.

From 2024 to 2025 he actually threw nearly the same number of innings. His batting avg against actually increased but his WHIP improved, ERA dropped from 6.11 to 4.46 and Ks per inning improved.

He comes to Texas as an experienced bullpen arm who could develop into a high end stopper.

Call him the Fireman. Putting out flames.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy with family the last several days.

BW55 has good information on the 2 and added some for the young lady from Tech.

I will add that Kaiah Altmeyer, the OF from Arizona, who will be a senior, is telling me Coach White may be looking to move one of the existing OF's (Stewart maybe?) to 3rd or maybe even Altmeyer to 3rd. The reason I suspect Stewart is because she's the slower of the 3 OFs that played for Texas last season.

Taylor Anderson from okie lite will probably be used primarily as a pinch runner this year (as previously stated) but with her speed, she can easily be a threat to play OF her last 2 years however she will need to work on her hitting since that's her weakest link. She's a local product from Dripping Springs who ran track in HS. I'm liking the potential of this young lady, but I've always been a fan of speed in the OF.
