2024 Baseball Season Thread

3 good starts this weekend. Boehm has been good out of the bullpen. Need a few more solid arms in relief to solidify things.

No Tanner Witt once again. I hope he can get healthy
Duplanter and Fontenot would be my choices, until proven different. Then what do I know?

So I just turned on the game and my question is why are we starting Selvig? A freshman with four innings pitched with a 9 ERA. This is why I wonder about Pierce. He would rather tinker with the starters than play to win the ball game.

I'm going to complain again. Why is an infielder, flirting with Mendoza line starting at 2nd in the batting order? This is the kind of stuff that gets you fired. Just ask the Rangers manager that started Mendoza enough for him to qualify for a batting title.

I believe you use the weekday games to develop your 4th and 5th starter. You're going to need them for the tournaments. You also give others a chance to play. You don't bring up a batting average by sitting on the bench. Plus with the portal, if this kid is your future for now, you want to give him some playing time.

Winning isn't everything at this time of the year. You're building for a CWS run, not to pad stats.

Wondering why they keep score.

You can’t always play your best players only. You’ll tend to do it more in conference play. If you don’t play the lesser players, they’ll never develop. An injury will occur and they won’t be ready. I can think of a good football example… think Garrett Gilbert.

Agree with this post. Was good to see Harrison and Hurley look good yesterday evening. Hurley was really struggling and got taken out of starting rotation. Wonder if he had an issue that we didn’t know about. Certainly proven and talented enough to be that 4th starter. Harrison coming off injury could really help this team as he rounds back into shape. Pierce seems to have pulled back Witt and Shaw for a bit, both could possibly help later in season if they get healthy and rolling.

GG came in andplayed better han a lot of people give him credit for. Agree he schould have had more playing time.

I have talked to a lot of coaches LL, PL HS, A Led. Jc and all belivedin winning . Practice and reps. is usually where players are developed.

Wonder if one looked at boxscore, who pitched best for Horns?

Watched the game, would be interested in your positive post about the most impressive pitcher from tha box score. However I will say Dre Duplantier has really improved since last year and will help this team. I am watching for 3 or 4 more arms for the stretch run. The most experienced being Witt, Hurley, Shaw, and Harrison. All working thru some stuff, but have all produced good results in past years.

Just read a report that Witt has an injury. Certainly not good news, hopefully not major and can rehab and get back for the back half of conference season.

You are wrong. Nothing replaces game time development. They’re a bunch of guys who look good in practice that can’t play the game. And there are guys who don’t practice well that are great in the game. Think Major Applewhite and Chris Simms. I’ve played, watched and coached baseball. If you don’t give a player a chance to develop in games, they will never develop. How would a player ever get to the field in a game? Any sport.

Most ofPierce's players have been playing since 10orunder should have basics down.

Now if youcan tell me how starting a pitcher who has thrown around 10 pitcher helps develop him or the team .
Practice is good but donothurt teams conferdence by playing to lose.or at least an effort to wi

Take SS as an example, in agamemight get 6-5 chances in practice 10-15 or as many as his coach wants him to get.

Games or practice mostly a managers decision all are different. IMO alum. bats and every one gets to play has really hurt LL ball.

I don't think I've seen anywhere where someone posted you play to lose. Any player who plays to lose doesn't belong in a competitive league. Managing a team is a tight wire act in that you have to get players playing time. Practice is not a substitute for playing time. Any player that thinks they know everything they need to know just because they've played since they were 5 years old, won't get much better.

I do not belive any players have played to lose. Cannot saythat aboue the coach. Call it development or what ever butsome of his decisionsled to very low odds of winning, espically pitching.
