A QB can have nothing but a heel behind the line and it is a legal pass. That is the metric for that penalty not the ball.

That's certainly not what the rules expect said. FWIW, found this

"The offensive team may make one forward pass from behind the line during each down. If the ball, whether in player possession or loose, crosses the line of scrimmage, a forward pass is not permissible, regardless of whether the ball returns behind the line of scrimmage before the pass is thrown."

If this is the rule the call was correct. The announcers led me down an incorrect path.
However there were multiple bad calls and non calls on both sides in the game, unfortunately, in my opinion, the calls hurt us worse than them.
Still a gallant effort by the horns. And I am proud of our young men.

I saw a similar stat that Texas had one more pressure on Penix than Michigan. They did get one sack to our none.

For whatever reason, Penix had the game of his life.

I was skeptical, since that's not what the announcers said, or what my search initially showed. So I decided to go to the official rules pdf, and it confirms what you said.

Not very impressive for the guys getting paid to announce the game getting that important rule wrong.

The announcers very rarely comment on bad calls either. Their cred is definitely suspect.

this year we got stuck with some less that objective announcing crews I hope that changes with the new TV contract where the SEC will be broadcast by ESPN/ABC, we should also be getting the #1 or #1A crew every week next year, can say that last year, grew real weary of Dusty Dvorcek (OU alum) and his partner, I expect we get Greg McElroy and his partner, but im sure there will be lots of broadcasting shakeups before next season, I cant see Gary Danielson (CBS-SEC) going unemployed next season

Dvorcek didn’t bother me. I hope I never hear Gus again. Can’t stand him. He gets so excited over nothing. And he’s annoying. I rank him with Beth Moen as worst. Joel Klatt, his partner, is ok. I hope Danielson does retire too
