There is absolutely no connection between the 2018 and 2009 teams with the team we currently have.

I thought Ewers played well after a slow start. I don't pin this loss on him at all.

One thing I'll grudgingly admit about OU turning things around is this unexplainable thing called culture that OU seems to have that breeds winning. Since the advent of the Big XII they've won something like 30 more games than we have and 11 more conference championships. Hate them though I do, my unbiased self says they are superior to us by a big margin. Having said all of that I expect them to stub their toe somewhere along the line this season like they usually do.

I think we did in some aspects. The difference was the deep emotions from last year's RRR 49-0. They had a chip on their shoulder. We didn't. They played their very best game, we didn't.

Our chip on the shoulder was Alabama. I doubt they expected this much improvement from OU. I certainly didn't think both lines would be beat by OU. While 20 years ago, this would have ruined my week, I get better at dealing with it. Instead of focusing on the negatives, I agree with Sirhorsalot. I woke up realizing we had numerous mistakes and penalties and still came so close to beating them. We have a great team, but can't lose to a good team on a day where we underperform.

Probably the second most important position on offense after the QB is the center. Early in the game our starting center got injured and our backup center was still recovering from an injury. Sark had no choice but to put a redshirt frosh who had no significant game experience in at center. That was an unfortunate time for him to get thrown to the wolves. QE was sacked something like 5 times including a critical sack on the last drive. There were several game-changing mistakes, but that injury affected almost the entire game on offense.

Also, losing Catalon early didn't help with the run defense, especially when ou decided to try to run on our D.

Yes, injuries are part of the game, but those two were untimely, unfortunate, and probably changed the outcome.

Develop, yes. Play calling is a work in progress for Sark. He has a touch of arrogance in his play selection.

yep, he's another physically talented but slow thinking QB; the type that looks all world in high school just as Garrett Gilbert & Chris Simms did, both of whom were good to very good but not great

True, but when it causes loses it's too much and that's what happened last week. Had Texas converted the RZ opportunities into FG's Texas would have won.
