I would suggest it depends more on the maturity of the program than the school. Texas has been able to make up for a couple of lost recruiting classes by filling gaps from the portal. Once we get to the point that the roster is 2 or 3 deep without being able to trade up, the portal won't be as big of a factor. Recruiting is the life blood, but the portal is a good backup or transitional plan.I'm wondering, does a school like Texas go the recruiting route to fill portal departures or the portal itself? Recruiting has more potential than the portal, in my opinion, simply because the portal has a majority of players who didn't succeed at their previous school.
The difference is MM has been in the system for a year. So Sark has seen him and knows what he can do. Someone has to challenge QE for the QB1 spot since Card is leaving and Manning won't be ready.MM would really have to tear it up to pull that off.
We just went through the freshman blues with a inexperienced QB. Now we're going to do it again?
Very good points. Only coach or program to do well overlong period using transfers was Snyder at K. St.I would suggest it depends more on the maturity of the program than the school. My bad. I was going to say since Texas is recruiting top 10 classes. Had brain fart. ?I would suggest it depends more on the maturity of the program than the school. Here's the rub, it is very hard to build a 2-3 deep roster these days. If someone is a quality back up for you, don't be surprised if they hit the portal (see guys like Karic, Jamier Johnson, Hudson Card for Texas this year). Especially if they are upper classmen, they will bolt.I would suggest it depends more on the maturity of the program than the school. I think it’s MM’s work ethic (mental and physical) that has impressed the staff.Seriously...the guy got NO PT this year and just because of his reported gun of an arm, they think that he will challenge QB1...take the Golden child out of the conversation for a second, Sark showed us he is willing to die on the hill with QE as his QB1, and you think MM has a shot at QB1...ok but I sure dont see it
