Some good futbol related news today!

Texas has a 3 point edge with 1 game remaining. A tie or win Thursday against OU at home would make them solo champs. If they lose, we need a tie between TCU and Texas Tech.

At worst, a Texas loss and a TCU or Tech win would mean a tie and Texas would almost certainly have the tiebreaker to be the #1 seed for Big 12 Tourney.

Also of note, Lexi Missimo returned to action this week and has already been making a scoring impact - 2 assists, both to her prep teammate Byars.

Final game is tonight at 7 on LHN, a tie or win clinches outright championship.

Also, keep an eye on TCU vs Tech - a tie there and Texas wins outright even if they lose.

Volleyball responded with a sweep of WVU and then totally obliterated Tech - winning two of the sets with Tech scoring 7 and 9 points. That is almost unheard of in indoor volleyball where rally scoring is in play (a point is scored on every serve, not only if you are the team serving). I'd say they responded quite well to their first and only loss. Also, Nebraska took over the #1 ranking and then got swept by Wisconsin.

It's been great having Missimo back. 3 games and 3 assist from Lexi to Byars. Texas up 3-1 with 5 minutes left.

TCU and Tech tie so Texas is the outright champ.

Texas gets the win for good measure and will be 5 points ahead of TCU and Tech in the standings.

A good big 12 tourney showing and they could move up to a top 16 seeding which would mean 2 home games to start the tourney.

Texas is undefeated in Big 12 regular season play  the last two seasons.

Did someone say Wisconsin Volleyball???

Big 12 Cross Country championships were this morning.

The Men's team finished 3rd, just 2 points behind Iowa State. Ok St won in near perfect fashion, they are quite a dominant force in cross country. The men's team had 4 runners in the top 20 and their 5th finished 21st.

The women finished 4th, behind Ok St, Iowa State and West Virginia. They had 2 runners in the top 20.

What to watch for: November 11th is the NCAA regionals and this is where you punch your ticket to the NCAA championship round. The top 2 finishers in the 9 regionals automatically qualify and then 13 teams are picked at large. Fortunately teams like Ok St and Iowa state are not in our region which is overall pretty weak for CC.

The men's team is ranked 1st in the region with Arkansas being their biggest competition. They should have no problem being an AQ and I'd expect a championship finish in the mid-teens to low 20s.

The women's team has some work to do to get to NCAAs. Arkansas will likely win the region and Texas will duke it out with Texas A&M for the 2nd AQ spot. If they fall to 3rd, they will have to hope for an at-large selection. Most 3rd place teams will get at large spots but Texas' region is pretty weak so I wouldn't want to leave it to chance. Qualifying a team would guarantee at least a 31st place finish which would be an improvement from last year. If the team doesn't qualify, we have 2 runners with chances to get individual bids in Monica Hebner and Beth Ramos. Qualifying at least 1 runner would clinch a 32nd place finish and 27 directors cup points - which is what the women's team did last year.

Women's soccer whooped Kstate 4-0 and move onto the semis against WVU on Thursday. TCU still alive on the other side of the bracket and the likely team to advance on that side to the finals which is Sunday.

Bracket selections on Monday, Nov 7 and Texas will look for a top 16 seed overall.

Both cross country teams are picked 2nd in their regional at this point - again, fortunate that the "south central" region is pretty weak for cross country. Next Friday is the regional and it'll be a great result if both teams can land 2nd place finishes and qualify for the NCAA championship.

Soccer lost to WVU today, 1-0 in the semis of the big 12 championship. This was only their 2nd loss of the season.

We await seeding on Monday

With Texas becoming bowl eligible today, they have clinched at least 25 points for the director's cup. Bowl winners score 45 points and teams ranked in the final AP poll score between 49-100 points.

I hope when the LHN gets absorbed by the secn, it stays separate so we can continue to get basketball, baseball, volleyball, etc games that we probably wouldnt otherwise

Would be nice, but I'm pretty sure that the sec wants their network as the sole source of content.

I think all the SEC games not on a network are ESPN streaming as SEC+.

Got a 7 seed and will play Aggy to start. Would then have to go on the road to Duke. Ew.

Surprised TCU got a better seed as a 5.

Did tcu do better during the tourney?
TCU went 2-1 while Texas went 1-1.

I'm guessing the committee relied a lot on RPI for seeding. Texas was 26 in RPI so a 7 seed fits while TCU was 21 to a 5 seed (or 6 seed) makes sense for them too.

Texas had a good record but their toughest games were a loss to UNC and a tie against TCU, no big wins and that hurts in RPI.

Will be fun to knock A&M out of the tourney but that Duke matchup will be very tough.
