Butkus just got more pub because he was so mean and nasty before, during and after the play.

Nobis was all business. Didn't talk much, let his play do the talking. Tough, tough, tough player.
Nobis didn't get the accolades at Atlanta the way Butkus did as a monster of the midway.

So I agree.

Everyone is talking about what needs to improve with the Longhorns for this to be a successful season. I took a second look at last season's losses to see what went wrong.

Arky was a shit show from halfway through the first quarter. We got punched in the mouth and never recovered. That's on coaching for the most part but Card really struggled and regressed.

OU was a tale of two halves. The Texas offense tallied 340 yards in the first half but only 174 in the second, while OU had 292 in the first and 370 in the second. The line of scrimmage was the issue here.

OSU Two untimely turnovers by Thompson (one a pick six) and a poor showing by the offense in the second half. One 4 and out and four consecutive 3 and outs.

BU was a win by a team that just had a better defense. Shut down our rushing attack.

Iowa St was a very poor performance by Card in relief of Thompson

KU Turnovers marred this game. All four by the QB's. The defense was porous again to the tune of 420 yds.

WVa another piss poor performance by the QB's

So in my opinion the QB position was the largest contributor to the disappointing season followed closely by the defense in general. Offensive line while culpable was not the greatest offender.

I was thinking back on this recently. Aside of Arkansas and Iowa State, our losses came down to not finishing the game out. Often we needed 1 more drive, 1 more score or 1 more stop to win and we just couldn't do it.

We all know the OU loss and that was certainly the case. The Worthy fumble on the kickoff set them up to take the lead, the worthy TD tied it up again but we couldn't get a stop.

Ok St we were up 11 in the 3rd qtr. We didn't score after the 12 minute mark in the 3rd qtr. Held the lead until under 5 minutes remained and lost by 8 overall. 1 more score or 1 more stop and we win.

Baylor was very similar to Ok state. Up 11 with 9 minutes in the 3rd qtr, but only scored 3 points after that. Lost by 7. 1 more score or stop.

Kansas of course a low point. Losing on a 2 pt conversion in OT. Obviously we just needed one more stop or score, or even just stop the 2 pt conversion.

WVU had a lead all game but Texas kept it close and scored to get within 5 with 12 minutes left. WVU tacked on a FG to win by 8 total. Again, another stop and score and Texas could win that game.

tl;dr - 5 of Texas' losses were 1 possession games and Texas just didn't have the juice to make it happen. If the team can be 1 possession better this year, 9-10 wins seems reasonable.

The OL was proably the second bigest problem. Defense was number one.

IMO Thompson was adquate at QB until he was hurt. Then QB went down hill.

Just read an articleon 24/7  entitled 10 best football teams of last decade. Two big 12 teams made the list.  however niether has a steer for a mascot. No suprise.

Both are from Okla.

I'm going to have to see the data on Oklahoma State being one of the 10 best football teams of the last decade. I'm a little skeptical until I see that.
