Texas should just win the conference this year to piss them off. lol

Chip Brown discussed some of this on the Flagship podcast this week.

Essentially saying that if the Big12 alters it's current teams enough (ie by adding Pac12 teams), that could cause an alteration of the Grant of Rights contracts and that may be an opportunity for Texas and OU to depart. 

With the new Big 12 president saying he is looking for a win-win with the Big 12 and Texas/OU, it seems possible that the Big12 makes a positive move for themselves and lets OU/Texas off the hook early.

But the Pac12-Big12 thing was pronounced dead yesterday after the meeting of the higher ups of both conferences.

Texas and OU need to just stay in everyone's big fat way and soon enough they'll ask us if we'd like to leave early. And win the conference. In everything. lol

Yes, no merger. Now the thought is the Big 12 could try to poach 4-6 Pac12 schools. If that happens, could void the current GOR which right now comes with a 120 million dollar price tag for Texas to leave.

And the Pac12 has visions of poaching a couple of Big12 schools. Should be interesting. Neither conference really has any leverage here. If you honestly asked BYU if they'd rather travel the west coast instead of Florida, West Virginia, Iowa, etc., I bet they'd take the west coast.

Seems like for the PAC12 and Big12 to have the most successful merger, they both need to give up their less attractive members to forge an overall stronger conference. Neither seems to be willing to do that at this time.

Pac-10 has less leverage than the Big 12, though.

Only way they stay together is if they appease UO and UW with a larger piece of their smaller pie. From what I've read, their media rights with USC & UCLA were worth $500 MM ($42.6 per team). Without them, it's assumed to only be worth $300 MM, if not less.

Funniest part of this speculation is CA has banned paid travel to Texas and other red states for public employees. I doubt Berkeley wants to be associated with TX and OK. Just saying.

UCLA may not be going to the Big 10. See Gov. Gavin Newsome who is all kinds of butt hurt over this.

Equally ignorant here, it may be that those 4 schools can get added without a major upheaval regarding Gor, but say the total number of new schools is 8, that may warrant a new agreement.

You may be right and makes sense.  Either way, I hope the big 12 does get those 4 teams and we can move on to the sec asap.

In listening to Chip Brown's podcast, he made it sound like the rooting interest for texas fans would be for the big 12 to poach the pac 12 but didn't give a lot of details. It'll be a legal battle either way with both sides trying to protect their money as much as possible.

Cause the Big 12 is willing to cut a deal. The commissioner has hinted at it. But they have to get something for giving their two biggest schools up.
