My point is if players are getting NIL money they don’t really need scholarship money. But maybe they can’t get NIL money unless they are on scholarship?
I hear ya on your first point. Could apply that concept to any sport really if you have enough money. Imagine the football team have 30 scholarship quality players as "walk-ons" who just so happen to get 6 figure NIL deals.

All athletes can get NIL deals regardless of scholarship. Heck, the previous rules prevented athletes from making money off of their Name, Image and Likeness so its quite the opposite.

Anyone have thoughts on pending hitting coach. Good hire or not?
I always felt that Baylor couldn't pitch but were alright at hitting. Respected name at a minimum. Didn't work out for him at Baylor but was good at Pepperdine.

Woody was a good pitcher in the MLB.  Anyone who has a 15 year career is a pretty good pitcher.  His last year in the majors was with Houston.  Must have stayed there.  The new staff has a lot more skins on the wall.

For those that have asked, yes, these hires are by Pierce.  CDC may have had input, but CDC in looking to make improvements to the baseball field. Although, we have a capacity of around 7,600 or so. We were 6 in total attendance and average attendance. Now, of the top 8 the others were all SEC.  Time to increase the total amount and as we go into the SEC need to be closer to Arkie and LSU at over 10,000+.  Plus improving the facilities as a whole for the baseball team and softball team as well.

I wonder what percentage of our current capacity we are filling? I wonder how many sell outs we had this year? Seems like those numbers would need to be relatively high to justify the expense of expanding. I'm all for it, just curious if fan turn out justifies it.

If we do expand, seems like you'd have to extend the 2nd deck along the foul lines. I don't think outfield seating is very feasible given the streets behind.

Well, if I understood what Greg and Keith said during the weekend series at home that almost all were considered sellouts, but listed from 6,800+ to 7,400+.  Most weekday game(s) were more like 6,500 to when we played aggy 8,500+ .

Do know that they said that during the regional games they have temp. seating up to 9,000 for the Sat. night and Sunday games with Texas involved.

From what I've  gathered CDC has placed getting the football and basketball upgrades as needing to get done. They are, now he is looking to improve baseball/softball fields. They have done some improvements for both, but getting the improvements prior to the move needs to happen. Doubt the cost is as much as the football and basketball arena.  Bet he will get several companies to give him designs for upgrading the baseball department/ softball department and fields. Before decision is made and wants input from the coaches and boosters/fans.

Well, if Texas can "move"/close Red River street then expanding into the streets in the outfield is child's play.

Texas has officaly hired the two baseball asst. coaches.

Lost a softball asst. head coach at Arizona St. Hired a replacement from ou. Transfer pitcher from Arizona St. 18-3 last year.

Beat Texas 5-0 should be a big pick up.

Does Baylor or San Jac have anyone transferring that is worth going after? With the connections we now have?

Texas lands 3B/2B Long Beach St transfer Tanner Carlson. Posted a .345/.397/.466 slash line, all career-highs in 2022. Never played more than 39 games in a season for the Dirtbags though.

Not much power but looks like a good utility infielder.

Might be the 3rd basemen.  Daly and o'Dowd(?) as the 2nd and SS and add the USC catcher. Most of the infielders could be set. Plus we added a 2nd/SS flip fro, tech in Cade O'Hara (fr, not a fart per SHA).

Plus a late pitcher addition in Kobe Minchey.

Will see if kennedy signs as an UDFA. If not we have 2 outfielders thus 7 of 9 position players that have experience for next year. Plus adding 3 experience pitchers to what is back. Not certain we are where we were we thought we were last year, but with a real pitching coach maybe we are better?
