Youth + money = uh oh

Hopefully, parents are knee-deep in this.
I can completely agree with this! What the university should do in conjunction with this is require each beneficiary to take money management courses every year that they're in the program. And a percentage should be invested for the student athlete. Help these kids prepare for their future as most will not be professional athletes

I really want to feel good about this. But I just don't.
Honestly it’s the only thing that gives me hope for our program. I still believe this staff can get things turned around but with the monumental collapse we just witnessed they are limited in what they have to sell. We are not a few pieces away, we only have a couple of pieces. We need new blood and a lot of it. We have one advantage as a program and it’s money. I’d rather put it in the player’s pocket than buy another toy or build a new monument. Our kids might not worry about losing a scholarship since they can hit the portal but if they want to get paid big time money they better be playing big time ball.
When the coaches get finished with their player interviews they are conducting we will have 3 clearly defined groups. Players that stay who are on the right path, players who stay but better get on the right path immediately and players that told to find a new team. The last two groups will be large.

I agree about the money part.  We need to use our assets (money) to our advantage.  But will the money the players receive be an incentive to play harder?  If all football players are getting paid the same, then what's the incentive to excel?

I'd like to see a performance based pay.  It's what I have to deal with at my company and they should do it too. ?

I agree in principle but if other schools dont do the same, then the program only hurts itself.
Maybe they could have a minimum and then go up based on some kind of performance criteria.

Also keep in mind most student athletes have NFL aspersions so the pay isn't going to be the only thing motivating them.

Supposedly the $100k is tier 1 (every player gets it). It’s similar to a “retainer” fee. Players are all contracted with the Advertising group that was formed. (It does not prohibit the players from getting their own deals) Tier 2 seems to be the “performance piece”. The Ad group helps the players broker deals with companies. The better the player the bigger the deal. This is when your stars can really make serious money. The AD group is part of the new committee that works with the kids (fiscal guidance and money management) and make sure everything is on the level. They are suppose to announce this second piece once they are positive it’s all within the NIL guidelines. The first tier really got under the competitions skin but the second part is supposedly ridiculous. It probably won’t be made public until after NSD but everyone was determined to get part 1 out prior to it happening.

Or maybe they can pay by tackles for defense.

$100/tackle

$500/QB sack

$1000/take out a star RB

$1500/take out a star QB

Hmmm, seems I've seen this movie.

Not sure about that, but if you are going to pay for good plays you should also subtract for mistakes.

Maybe they could use the film evaluations they presumably already do to come up with a grade for each player and use that grade to determine the size of the game bonus.

And what happens when a wide receiver or running back complains they are not getting the ball enough to make bonus?   What about MOB money buying QBs to throw to their guy more than he should?  Or a player is compelled to play hurt so he can make bonus even though it could ruin his career?   What additional pressure is going to be placed on winning to justify paying players $100K?

I hate all this crap.  It’s ok if we pay $100K.  What if ou or aggy can pay $200K?   Are you ok with that?  College football as we knew is gone.

Get back with me when a corporation wants to pay players but only if that college agrees to play in a stadium they own and control.  Won’t happen? NFL teams never left the cities they started out with, correct?

I love your plan. Hopefully we're not the only ones seeing the danger.

When I was a junior in HS, we had a senior RB who was my friend. Wild ass country boy. His dad died before football season, leaving him $200K in his will. This was 1981 so that figure was much bigger back then.

Before football season was over, he had purchased and wrecked two cars and bought another (third), was held out of the last five games because he couldn't keep his grades up, it just all became a big fat mess.

If I were a monkey whisperer, then I might know but I dont, however, I suspect that this is a result of the one-on-one counseling that was started this week about player's future.  He's had a terrible time with injuries and his outlook probably didnt look great. Hope things work out for him

I know it’s far fetched but I sure would like to see us get Patterson in some capacity.  I would also bring in Orgeron as an analyst and let him recruit.  Jimbo is hammering on the trail right now and I just think that would bring in a huge amount of excitement for us.  I know it is very very low percent chance that it will happen but it would be great.

I'm not oppose to a sweaty fatterson hire but I'm not sure how much excitement he would bring to recruits as an analyst.  I dont think fatterson was a great recruiter anyway and his go-to recruiting tactic was negative recruiting. His big asset was development and game strategy.

Therefore, is PK open to criticism and strong emphatic suggestions? Would fatterson be a source of discontent in the coach's room?  This could be bad or good - I dont know.  Life experience tells me that strong personality relationships that are forced generally do not work out well.

On the surface that sounds like a great idea, but everyone knows that once a UT football coach steps on the 40 acres campus, his IQ drops about 100 points. You think coach O is hard to understand now...We'd need someone in Mensa to come coach here...What? ...wait... ?

Texas has hired translators for some players in the past but has Texas ever hired a translator for someone on the football coaching staff?

We’re going to the SEC so I’m looking for anything that can help.  Orgeron has been one of the top recruiters for years. Maybe Sark’s staff will get this done and we will all be happy in a few years but the way A&M is going right now I am looking for anything that can give us some traction right now.
