I met with Coach Akers when I decided to attend UT, as I was contemplating walking on. He spent almost an hour talking to me and my grandfather. Very gracious and straight forward about the process. I ended up going a different route (track) but I’ll never forget that conversation. Meant a lot to a 17 yr old kid.

RIP Coach

RIP Fred Akers age 82, sure wasn't my first choice to follow DKR, but he was smart enough to change out of the Bone and get Earl a Heisman, hard to forgive him for blowing the NC, but he was a classy guy and put us in bowl games

One of my favorite quotes by a Texas coach was Fred Akers after beating OU: "Get out the wide-angle lenses, boys, I'm gettin' ready to smile."

RIP Fred. I apologize for all the things I said about you after the Georgia game. :)
could not have been any worse than the words I was using during the game. I remember when they announced that he got the HC position and even though I was just a few years past high school all I could think was did DKR have a say in this. How did we get the HC from Wyoming over Bill Campbell ? Gotta give he and his staff props because they had a great run of putting 1st round picks into the NFL
