Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

3 star players? Urban Meyer or whomever will be going after 4 or 5 star players. Think the future son.
If you're old enough to be my dad, you should be in a grave somewhere. lol

Okay, on Meyer, but you were talking about a prenup for recruits to agree to the Eyes.

Why would our 3-star players go to Bama or Clemson? We don't recruit on their level yet.

I think that's the problem. The BMDs already made a compromise and doled out their end of the bargain. But they didn't get what they asked for in return.

It is amazing . . . outright a miracle that somehow, someway, UT was able to have teams for 100+ years where the players stayed, stood and sang at the end of the game. And now, they just can't?

lol, Yeah, I'd be up front about the tradition here and I think that's been the case since both of our great-grandfathers were born.

Seeing Sam and our punter out there by themselves at the end of this game says all you need to know about this team. It is not unified at all. Maybe we should skip more practices and have more kumbaya meetings so we can get all emotional and stuff. They're not good at football, might as well be good at something.
Enough said…ONLY Sam and Buchyvsky (sp), the punter, standing and recognizing “The Eyes of Texas” says it all!!! The Eyes of Texas is our school song and is NOT racist!!! As an alum of the University of Texas, I and others have a voice and say about keeping and respecting “The Eyes of Texas” as our school song.  It is NOT just a song to be sung and recognized in support of athletics.  It represents the entire University, past, present and future!!!  I say that if an athlete, especially on scholarship, at The University of Texas cannot at least stand in silence when “The Eyes of Texas” is played then he or she has the freedom to relinquish their scholarship and “PORTAL”!!!  All gory to God as WE are ALL His children!!!  Hook’em

Tuesday morning words from Burton at 247.

"A picture is worth a thousand words. Sam Ehlinger standing alone among a smattering of coaches and support personnel while the school’s Alma Mater is played at the Cotton Bowl was the final straw. In my correspondence with sources from within the Board of Regents all the way to megadonors who write large checks to complete capital projects currently underway, it is the appearance of sheer dysfunction and disrespect as much as it is the poor play on the field that could very well cost Tom Herman his job."

He also said that Herman sent  James Brockermeyer home with an offer of being a walk on. The number one center in the country with a brother whose the number one tackle in the country and he offers a walk on with our great offensive line recruitment.

Iowa State on the same day offered James a scholarship.. Herman needs to go!

Nahlin said this? Thats incredible, if true. Remarkably naive. Good centers are not easy to find in the first place.

No wonder Brock sr turned on CTH.

Does anyone else see the irony in having a patch on the Longhorn jerseys that says “we are one” with Sam standing out there representing the Longhorn team alone?

No matter your opinion of his QB abilities that my friends is a man.  If everyone on that team played with his heart and his passion for the University of Texas we would not be 2-2 right now.

Good ole days.  Maybe someone should tell the current players that better players on better teams sang EOT.

Whoever took that 2nd video was sitting pretty close to me! I remember nobody wanting to leave that night and yes, the players were singing The Eyes.

FIFY due to significance.

Well Tom managed to get a three star center. Can e hold him?

He lost me months ago when he said we just need six or seven OL that can play.

An OL might help our not so good RBS. Reason for that is IMO non of them could start over Pledger 25 or so lighter but faster and more shake and bake.

Bohls: Angry eyes of Texas are upon Tom Herman

:

1. Not just a song. Texas President Jay Hartzell and athletic director Chris Del Conte blew it. Pure and simple. They didn’t get out ahead of the raging firestorm over “The Eyes of Texas” that will not go away. Those two should have done a better job squelching the furor this summer. I don’t think Texas will ever agree to get rid of the song. Hartzell has formed a committee and charged it with not deciding the song’s future, but “understanding the history. The charge does not include getting rid of it,” a UT source said. Texas had made strides in removing the names of people with racist connections or pasts from campus buildings, renaming the football field after Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams and erecting a statue for Julius Whittier, UT’s first black football letterman. And it should keep doing more to go forward in a positive way that helps UT distance itself from a negative racial perception. ... Tom Herman should not be “encouraging” his players to stay on the field as he said. He should tell them and his staff to remain on the field to thank the fans for their support and remind them singing “The Eyes” is optional. Isn’t he in charge? He painted himself into a corner when he was adamant about advocating strong stands by his players and is now paying an unfortunate price. “People are upset, and there’s a lot of anger at the players and Tom Herman,” the source said. “He fanned the flames.” ... The image of Sam Ehlinger standing alone at the Cotton Bowl singing “The Eyes” was a seminal moment and endeared him even more to thousands of fans but also sent a bad message of a divided team. “The Eyes” is a piece of Longhorns’ souls, a unity-building song that was not adopted to degrade Black people but to bring students and alumni together with a tighter bond. I see no need to throw out the song with the bath water, but the waters are swirling.

2. Who’s got next? Herman had better run the table or go 5-1 down the stretch and go to a big bowl if he wants to save his job. If the meltdown continues and Texas limps home with a 5-5 season, boosters will come up with the minimum $35 million to pay his tree-year buyout and his staff and the first year of a new staff. A prominent Longhorns power broker told me Tuesday he isn’t sure Herman is gone. “I think there is a wait-and-see attitude. The thing to watch is whether the team stays on the field after the next game. I think that is a good indicator as to whether he has lost the team or not.” ... The source does not think Texas has lost $25 million in donations and pledges because so many athletic contributions “are locked in,” but the threats to do so are real. ... The suggestions on a potential new coach start and pretty much end with Urban Meyer and 49ers coach/Horn ex Kyle Shanahan second in line. Firing Herman would send a horrible message as a university, which cries poverty at the same time the school has announced furloughs and layoffs. Then again, football is king.

OU does not recruit as many Texans as they use to how ever two Texans helped them to victory

Mims and # 18 hurt in a big way espicaly Mims.Wish Texas could recruit and keep one of these players small but super fast.

Another point is OU did not have a DL man that weighed 300 pounds.

Horrible message to fire a coach that cannot win games. Has had four years and very little improvement. Not fireing for beening simlar to Strong would be horrible IMO.
Agree. Right now Herman seems like another Strong to me. And he should be treated the same.

I don't think our D-line is as good as we thought they were. Too many yards allowed on the ground. The 4th down QB sneak in overtime comes to mind. One thing that I did see that was beyond our control (other than a dominant pass rush), 0u WR's came up with some timely grabs in traffic.
