Chris Gilbert was my favorite longhorn as a kid and I use to pretend I was him in the backyard. I use to keep track of his carries and yardage during the game.

Chris Gilbert ran for 3,231 yards in 29 games for Texas in 1966-68. He was the first player in NCAA history to record three 1,000-yard rushing seasons since the association began keeping statistics. He rushed for 1,080 as a sophomore, 1,019 as a junior, 1,132 as a senior. He was All-Southwest Conference three times and consensus All-America in 1968. His best games were for 245 yards against Baylor in 1966, 213 against Baylor in 1968, and 202 against Texas Christian in 1966. In that same Texas Christian game, Gilbert had a 96-yard run from scrimmage. In his career he returned 20 kickoffs, averaging 22.7 yards on each. For his career he averaged 5.4 yards per rushing attempt. He scored 28 touchdowns in 29 games. Gilbert stood 5-11 in height and weighed 176. He was drafted by the New York Jets but did not play in the NFL. He launched a successful business career in Houston as president of Gilbert Investment Co.

at his first game in 1966, we were all busting at the seams to watch Bill Bradley play his first game. Bradley made the cover of SI before ever playing a down. But it wasnt Bradley that stole the show. Some guy I never heard of....Gilbert, just ran and ran. He was something else.

I was so excited waiting for that game. National TV and the debut of Super Bill Bradley.This was also the first Texas game since the Texas tower shooting which had happened six weeks before which was a first of it's kind. 
 
 I got my recruiting information from my father, uncle, and whatever made the Houston sports pages and Bill Bradley was a big deal. Bill, the Worster bunch, and Earl Campbell were Royal's most hyped recruits coming in.
 
Chris Gilbert was not only a consistent great running back, but he was highly entertaining to watch. This game has reminded me of Bijan Robinson. Bijan debut has me as excited as I was on the debut of Bill Bradley and Bijan has the talent to be as excited and successful as Chris Gilbert.

The Big 10 has cancelled their season. Pac 12 expected to follow.

What a great opportunity for the Big 12 to simply take the lime light left to them and be the only game in town. Ratings would be through the roof.

Do it.

Be the league that braved the virus. Certainly if people can protest, go to wal mart, etc., they can play football. Successful season and suddenly the Big 12's profile is at the top. Your competition gets to sit in their living rooms and watch.

Screw em all!!!  Play football!!  It’s a virus.  It’s worse on older folks so you older folks stay home.  If you’re scared stay home.  If you’re scared to play, stay home.  I’m tired of seeing our country doing everything the scaredy cats want us to do.  By golly when do the ones who aren’t scared get to do as we wish.  We’re not asking that the scared cats have to do as we do, so we shouldn’t have to do as they do.  Play.F€#%king.Football!  Sorry, had to get that off my chest

The 2020 National Champion will have an asterisk next to their name.  It won't be a legitimate championship, IMO.  Have playoffs been canceled?  I haven't heard..

Walmart, Home Depot, grocery stores in my area all require masks.  The protesters wear masks, except the ones that stormed the Michigan courthouse.

So are they going to play football with masks?  It was reported that one of the kids that tested positive in the Ga High School caught it, believed to be, playing football per his Aunt.

I don't think your temperature gets checked at Wal Mart. Why leave that out? At least ask questions you've thought through first.

UT checks the temperatures of all players, daily, and before contact with other players. You can't pass the virus when you're not experiencing symptoms. UT tests its players regularly.

Does Wal Mart do any of that?

UT has spent a considerable amount of money making sure they can do this safely.

I don't know what Georgia high school football would have to do with that.

There are peaceful protests, but they are seemingly taken over every time by rioters and looters. Again, it's happening every single night.

The "bubble" is what will extend this, not end this. Herd immunity will have to be achieved and one does not gain that by isolation. I hope the NBA goes broke and dies.

UT started with 19 cases. Now, they have none. I tend to think they're doing something right here.

I disagree. Too many medical professionals state that you don't pass the virus if you're not exhibiting symptoms. For instance, if you're not coughing, you're not really posing a threat to anyone.

Certainly, asymptomatics won't be sneezing and coughing often since they don't have those symptoms but they still are talking which can still spread the virus; unless they are taking precautions, i.e. wearing a mask, social distancing.  The risk is certainly decreased but it's not 0.
