Anyone know why we aren’t recruiting Garrett Hayes the o lineman from Athens Tx? He’s 6’5 300 and he can run

I'm hearing Zach Evans got into it again with some players and then a coach during practice. The HC there tacked on another one game suspension and then Evans quite the team.

I'm hearing Zach Evans got into it again with some players and then a coach during practice. The HC there tacked on another one game suspension and then Evans quite the team.
So he was suspended, then kicked off the team and now he quit the team he was kicked off of? I can’t keep up.

I heard he didn’t quit and so all of the other players quit and then all of the coaches quit. Then all of the players and coaches that quit started a new team and Evans asked if he could play on the new team and they said no. So Evans is still on the team but there are not any other players on his team and he doesn’t have any coaches.

They say he really likes everyone on the team now and rarely has any incidents. Maybe he’s discovered a way to play for his teammates and do what’s best for himself at the same time.

It’s the elusive win win scenario. I’m happy for the kid.

Salpointe star Bijan Robinson talks about his career-best night, the open division and losing Dennis Bene

Salpointe’s Bijan Robinson rushed for a school-record 430 yards in last week’s win. The senior has 5,342 career rushing yards and is 537 yards from breaking the Class 4A record.

Goodyear Desert Edge is currently rated as the fourth-best Class 4A team in the state.
Bijan Robinson is better.
Salpointe Catholic’s senior running back rushed for a school-record 430 yards and six touchdowns on 13 carries last week as the Lancers beat Desert Edge 68-34. Both single-game records were previously held by, well, Robinson from last season.

Just two games into the 2019 season, the Texas-bound back is creeping up on state records for running backs. Robinson needs just 360 yards to surpass former Canyon del Oro standout Ka’Deem Carey for career yards, and 537 to become Class 4A’s all-time leading rusher. Arizona’s all-time career rushing yards leader, for all divisions, is former Phoenix Northwest Christian running back Casey Jahn. Robinson is 2,202 yards away from tying Jahn’s record.
Robinson is the Star’s high school player of the week. He joined the Star’s Justin Spears on ESPN Tucson earlier this week to talk about the win and where the Lancers stand heading into a bye week:
How were you able to rush for 430 yards and six touchdowns against a solid Desert Edge team?
A: “The gift that God has given me, it really does show, but the biggest part to that game was the (offensive) line. They were creating holes and I made things happen when they created space at the second level. With what the defense was giving us, we found out their scheme pretty early as you can see by the result, it went pretty good. … This is the strongest we’ve been in the three years that I’ve been here. We know what it takes to get to a championship. We know we have to do good and make it. Our senior class, we just have to keep the young guys going, and it’s looking pretty good right now.”

Was the win over Desert Edge a message to the state?

A: “It definitely was. That’s what we wanted the state to see. We’re not playing this year. I know we lost the last three years to the same team, but now there’s The open division, and we’re trying to let the state know we’re coming and we’re not messing around. Coming into the Desert Edge game, we were fully prepared and they had some Division I athletes, but that didn’t really phase us. We just went out there and produced.”
Now that the Lancers are 2-0, what’s the state of Salpointe Catholic football?
A: “I’m liking things a lot. We have a lot to learn. I’m not saying we’re the best team out there. We’re just trying to keep growing as a team. Team chemistry is a big part in what we do. … The conditioning pays off. That was a big reason why we won the Desert Edge game. We were so much more conditioned than they were.”
Your coach, Dennis Bene, announced that he will retire after this season. When you’re no longer a Lancer, how will look back on the man who coached you in high school?
A: “He was the reason why I went to Salpointe. I wasn’t sure where I was gonna go to high school. Just him as a person and how he represents himself. … When you get to talk to him, you know he’s a real dude. He’ll help you through life, through football, through whatever you need. During recruiting, I wanted to see how college coaches were like him. How he is as a person and as a coach, he’ll be hard on you sometimes, but it’s tough love. And he’ll make sure to give you a hug before you leave the field. I can call him as another father to me, because of what he’s taught me over the years. He’s a big part of Salpointe and my life.”

Robinson off to a record-setting senior season

TUCSON – Salpointe Catholic running back Bijan Robinson is our third Tucson Roadrunners High School Football Player of the Week for 2019.

The senior ran for 430 yards on 13 carries last Friday night in a 61-34 Lancers win over Goodyear Desert Edge.

It was the best performance of Robinson’s four-year prep career. He finished with six touchdowns.

Robinson, who is committed to play college football at the University of Texas, may always find himself compared to the last great rusher to come out of Southern Arizona, Ka’deem Carey.

The senior surpassed the mark of Carey’s best game by three yards and will likely crush the career prep stats of UA’s all-time leading rusher.

Robinson is currently sitting at 5,342 yards after two games of his senior season. Carey finished his four-year varsity run at Canyon del Oro with 5,701 yards.

The career-best single-game performances of these two players are ironically similar.

Carey as a junior against Glendale Apollo ran for 427 yards and six touchdowns but needed 28 carries to accomplish the feat versus Robinson’s 13.

The Dorado great finished his prep career with 87 total touchdowns. Robinson has 83.

The Lancers are off this week due to a scheduling conflict that cost them their game against El Paso Del Valle.

Robinson is likely to break what is considered to be the state rushing record for Conference 4A. Tolleson’s Marcus Thomas (’00-’02) ran for 5,878 yards in three seasons. That also stands as the most career yards in a big school (4A-6A) rushing career.

Thomas was once committed to UA before playing at UTEP and appearing briefly in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.

The all-time state record is 7,544 by Northwest Christian’s Casey Jahn (’08-’11).

If the Lancers were to advance to the state championship game, Robinson would have to average over 200 yards per game, over his final 11 games, to catch that mark.

Question on the competition that Bijan faces weekly.  Would you compare the competition to 3A, 4A, 5A, or 6A?

Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are !!

I saw Bijan's first game and they are considered 4A in Arizona. I would guess 3A in Texas.
Salpointe has 1,125 students. They would be a large 4A in Texas (cutoff is 1,149). The team they played has 1,764 students.

I would think that we would have an interest in a five star DL.

Antonio Alfano, the top-ranked player in Alabama's 2019 recruiting class, enters the transfer portal

The transfer portal has another resident, and this one has five stars attached to his name. Alabama defensive lineman Antonio Alfano, the No. 5 overall player and top-ranked player in Alabama's 2019 recruiting class, intends to transfer from the university, according to tweets from his father, Frankie-Hilda Alfano.

"Antonio's grandmother recently fell very ill and is still fighting on life support," he wrote. "He is very close with her. Since this illness took effect, Antonio has taken it very hard. He has not attended classes and practices."

This comes just two days after coach Nick Saban said that Alfano was going "through some discipline issues" and that he "kind of disappeared for a little bit." Despite the unknown discipline issue, Alabama has been cooperating with the Alfanos through the process and there's a chance that he exits the transfer portal to return to the Crimson Tide.

"The University of Alabama has been extremely supportive and I couldn't ask for better support from them," Frankie-Hilda Alfano wrote. "Yesterday, Antonio asked to be placed in the transfer portal to see what his options are. Although he's in the transfer portal, he still can decide to remain at the University of Alabama. My opinion is that Antonio should stay at the University of Alabama. However he's an adult and it's his decision. Antonio knows that his family has & will always be there for him."

The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder from Colonia, New Jersey, was highly sought after coming out of high school, and has what it takes to be a star in college footballaccording to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn.

"Potential to be a very athletic-framed 300-pounder on the next level. Plays with good leverage with an explosive first step. Has violent hands and aggressive mentality. Has the temperament you want on the defensive line. Highly competitive. Physical tackler through the ball carrier. Possesses elite edge athleticism and freakish combine testing numbers. Also has versatility and strength to play inside. Sheds blocks and attacks double teams effectively. Pursuit speed is rare but effort needs to be more consistent on plays away from him. Upper tier Power 5 multi-year starter with first- or second-round potential."

If Alfano stays in the portal, there will be plenty of schools that would love to secure his services for the next three or four years.
