Lets be honest here. The only reason everyone cares and is will to give a 2nd chance because he has football talent. Dudes like him get popped everyday for selling drugs and most here and society as a whole could give two shits about them and a 2nd chance. Matter of fact most would be calling the drug dealer a POS shit especially if he had sold drugs at your kids school.

I'm guilty on all charges.

I don't like this decision because it doesn't make UT look any better than other programs who overlook criminal behavior - say, OU.

Having said that, my hope is UT keeps him on a very short leash since he was charged with a misdemeanor and is serving a probationary sentence. Is our new mantra, "Just win baby!", Tom?

Re: short leash

Perrin's statement indicates that he is on a short leash.

Wouldn't that pretty much apply to every kid on the roster? We give a damn because they have football talent, that's all. I get your point, but the reality is that if you're s 4 or 5 star athlete the rules are different for you that for just about every other student at the University.

While I'm sure him being an athlete certainly helped. I'm not sure it's the only factor. I'm seem to remember reading he was a great student and was well respected around the school.

I would be very interested to know if there are any students not on Athletics Scholarships who have a misdemeanor conviction and are still enrolled at Texas.

I would be very surprised given the size of the school if there wasn't a rich frat boy or someone else who has had a run in with the law and has had it swept under the rug

You nailed it.  This does look like win at all cost Baby.

Funny most of us said the same thing about Stoops and Briles and now we embrace it with open arms.

Hypocritical.  /puke

I'm not sure how often this happens that an AD gets this involved, but Perrin was in Jenks, Okla., to visit with Reese's coaches (mainly Alan Trimble) before a decision was made. After a lengthy meeting with Trimble, it was Perrin's decision that Texas honor the scholarship. Reese was not allowed back on the Jenks campus following the arrest and finished the last class he needed online. If Texas had pulled the scholarship, another college would have stepped in. I'm glad Texas did this because there have been cases in the recent past were players at Texas were wrongfully accused of things and still were not allowed to return to the team even after their cases were ruled in their favor. Leitao is a good kid and no one here knows all the details of what happened, and likely never will. I'm fortunate to have a coaching friend at Jenks who I've known a long time and greatly respect who answered a lot of my questions and shed a lot of light on why this was given a downward departure from felony to misdemeanor. So put me on the pro-Leitao side, but with the aforementioned short leash. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, kick me in the a$$. Or something like that.
