Some thoughts following Charlie Strong's Monday presser

I spoke with a source today, after the presser. The BMDs in that particular circle are pretty ticked. Have no idea how serious this is, but the idea of a double firing was thrown out there. That's pretty ticked.

If both an AD and HC are to be replaced, the HC would be first I was told. AD would have to be good with the HC hire upon accepting the job. Concern is for the ability to field a decent recruiting class.

Gas was thrown on a fire today.
Good, someone go run by the gas station and fill up another tank. I want a real AD!

If I may ask, what do you mean by "particular circle"?

SHA, Charlie should have announced his resignation today.  The crowd at the game would have been much more supportive if informed.  It would have taken nothing away from the seniors.

I don't blame the BMD's for being upset.  I feel that everyone was misled.  We were told that he would address his future.  He didn't.

I hope you're right.

Nothing is going to happen until Saturday as I believe Perrin will meet with Charlie and evaluate the entire program. As many have said Charlie could get a victory againts the Frogs and a no name bowl invite where he pleads his case to delay all of this until after that bowl game.  I for one am just fatigued by all of this as I mentioned in a post a week ago. Perrin and Fenves or however you spell his name want Charlie to stay so guys just sit back as this drama will go on for a few more days. If we lose to TCU then by Sunday we should have an annoucement. If we beat TCU and get invited to a bowl game then we might be having this same conversation for several more weeks.

Why in the wide wide world of sports would anyone even consider this?

We need a new coach to start/salvage what we can from this recruiting class.

The man is going to finish 6-6 at best with a loss to F*****G KANSAS

Here's what I'm afraid of.

If losing to freaking Kansas didn't seal your fate, then what happens against TCU just might not make any difference whatsover.

And don't think for a minute that if we do beat TCU, that the pressure won't be huge for Fenves and Perrin to retain Charlie.

Sing it sista. No way we can do that now. We found rock bottom. It was Kansas.

Even if we lose? I really doubt that.

You and I would doubt it.

But after the today's press conference, and with Charlie basically saying all the same things on his Rewind show on the LHN, my confidence in Fenves and Perrin is at probably the lowest level it's been.

If you are going fire him, there's absolutely no upside to waiting until after the TCU game.

Has anyone given thought to what I think is the very real possibly that Charlie Strong could be the coach here next season?  It appears everyone has their minds made up that he's fired EXCEPT the ones in charge of making that call.  I'm just saying a lot of you may want to get your emotions in check otherwise you'll have a meltdown of epic proportions...

To the contrary, it's those who insist on keeping Strong who are the ones making an emotional plea.

Most calling for his dismissal reference his results and body of work exclusively as rational for his dismissal. Once again, it ain't personal. Just the business of winning football games.

Is disgust considered a "meltdown"? If so, I'll be in that camp if Strong is retained.

Like many, I have been disgusted with Charlie for quite some time. It ain't any fun.

This is one of the better posts in this whole thread.

I actually do think that it's possible that those in charge of making the call on Charlie's future haven't 100% made up their minds.

If Charlie is retained, it will exceed last Saturday's game as the most mind-boggling thing I have seen related to Texas football. And, like JBTexEx said, it will be far more a feeling of total disgust as opposed to a meltdown.

The more passionate factions of the fanbase have passed judgement. The other largely have no judgement to pass on the subject.

Perrin has done nothing to reign in the bloat and wasteful spending that is a hallmark of how Bellmont operates. We are still waiting to hear how the new tennis center is progressing, we are still waiting to hear how the new SEZ project is progressing, we are still waiting to hear how the new basketball arena is progressing, we are still waiting to hear how the capital campaign to endow athletics scholarships is progressing. And the more passionate factions of the fanbase are going to be asked to finance and support every one of these initiatives.

And you still think that Perrin and Fenves will bring back Charlie Strong. Maybe, but only at a very high cost that I don't think the student athletes should be asked to bear. A pissing match between a weak president and an inept AD on one side and the passionate the alumni on the other isn't in the best interests of the university.

Personally, I am comfortable giving Strong, Perrin and Fenves their walking papers. The university needs strong, effective, dynamic leadership. It certainly doesn't have it now.
