Hypothetical Question

Then why did Luck tell us he would not fire Mack? Or am I wrong about that?
I guess you can quote anyone as saying anything, but he was never in a position to fire Mack.

At this moment, I'm not so sure I'm happy Mack is gone.

Fundraising, relationship building , Mack would kill it.

But IMO, THE issue for the UT AD in the not too distant future will be realignment. Likely sometime around 2023-2025. Mack will be 71 in 2023.

You are missing my point. Probably because I wasn't clear.

I was told Luck would not take our A/D position if it was going to be his job to fire Mack. Mack had to be fired first. So we went with Patterson.

Ain't worried about 2023.

I'm telling you I believe that to be hockey.

I've yet to hear anyone make the case for Luck. . . not saying he's not a great candidate but what does he do that impresses you so much?
Oliver Luck is a former Houston Oiler QB who was replaced by Warren Moon.  He was head of the Houston Sports Authority and was an integral part of the creation of Minute Maid Park, Toyota Center, and Reliant Stadium (now NRG).

He was the President of the Houston Dynamo Soccer organization (where he helped get the BBVA Compass Stadium built). He was President of NFL Europe, Athletic Director at West Virginia, and is currently working for the NCAA.

He got his Law Degree from the University of Texas and was a Rhodes Scholar finalist while at WVU.

He's a pretty smart dude...I think he would do a great job as AD at Texas.

Greg Byrne is at the very top of the list for me if we're finally filling that void. I was really uncomfortable with permitting Perrin to continue serving as his AD. While very successful, I couldn't imagine him actually fulfilling the duties of an AD without any prior experience. Not at Texas.

What Byrne has done with Arizona is pretty amazing. He has made all of the right coaching decisions, even if Rodriguez's seat is getting warm. He has a PAC-12 South Title, a baseball national title and continuous great performances from the basketball team.

He was also great at Mississippi State. In addition, I personally think Arizona has marketed their program exceptionally well since Byrne's arrival.

The idea of hiring Mack doesn't bother me. It doesn't necessarily instill great confidence in our programs trajectory but the man is accomplished and all you have to do is look at Nebraska as an example of how a former coach can prove himself to be a great AD.

Not no but HELL NO to mackbrowntexasfootball.com.

I don't like him.

I never liked him.

I won't like him.

I simply do not buy his bullshit AT ALL.

I hated his clapping.

I hated that he coveted to surpass Royal.

I hated that he and his supporters meddled with the new coaching hire.

I think he is a crap broadcaster.

He needs to run for political office.

Then he will be amongst his own.

FULL STOP

So you're saying you are not a fan of Mack? or am I reading too much into the post?

I am with you on the clapping. I literally wanted to punch him in the face every time we would do something totally idiotic and he would be clapping and saying "its ok, its ok" as the players ran off the field.

I must say if the head coach doesn't want to surpass Royal I don't want that coach.

For those who think Mack would be a good AD, what is it about him that would make him better than Mike Perrin?

And, no, I'm not for keeping Mike Perrin in that position permanently.

Pure butt hurt. . . . .
So are you saying you would want Mack as AD?

I'm not butt hurt, I'm just saying I have my reservations about him. I even said in my post earlier that I think he could do great things. We'll more than likely never know.

Do you honestly think Mack wanted whoever succeeded him to win?

If Tom Herman is coach

Mack may not be a bad idea for AD.

All I know is that the BB'S are scattered and getting further apart. I'm not saying Mack is the guy to be AD but whoever it is with the new head coach has to be able to get them back in the box again.
