Strong says Bedford is not to blame

I don' t. Understand your point "primal defense ".
I was pointing out that Mack wasn't know to have an expertise in either offense or defense and he coach here for 15 years. I know he was a OC at OU, but I never felt he was he was an offensive mind like Steve Spurrier

I'm not putting CS in that category. He's a proven top notch DC. So I'm relived to read this.

Strong did vow he will get more involved in preparing Texas' defense going forward.

Charlie Strong promises changes for Texas defense after loss to Cal

Ok. Let me get this right.....UT has young players (for the tenth year in a row) and it's just a matter of having our players execute properly and that's going to be taken care of over the bye week.

How is it that Houston seems to be playing at a high level so quickly? Is it because they have a history of five star recruits going there that UT can't. Is it because they normally pay their coaches more money that Texas or that Houston has much better facilities than Texas or a much larger fan base than Texas?

Or is it simply a big difference in their head coaches and as a result, how their programs are run? It seems more and more Strong was chosen as a politically correct coach to show how "enlightened" UT is (diversity is everything) and perhaps other candidates may have been a better choice.

Oh, and don't look now but Loiusville seems to be playing decent ball right now. Don't they realize they have young players and new coaches?
"Chosen as a politically correct coach"?

Yes, because there is absolutely no racial overtones in that statement. Charlie Strong came off of Two 11+ win seasons. Hardly a "politically correct" choice. In fact, let's remember that many "better choices" declined to come to Texas.

And Houston struggled with Cincinnati late into the 4th quarter, being down by 4 points. Without 2 pick 6s, they would have won by only 10 against a mediocre Bearcats team. Domination!!!

Charlie Strong earned this opportunity. If he fails at this opportunity, he fails. But insinuating that the ONLY reason he was chosen was because he is a black man is not only racist, but ignorant of his resume prior to becoming Texas's head coach. Take that racist shit elsewhere like to a Donald Trump rally.

If you haven't been paying attention to the PC debate, I can't help you.

But the poster clearly said "Charlie Strong is a politically correct hire" which is insinuating that the reason Coach Strong got the job is because he is a black man. Not that he didn't have the credentials to get the job, it was because he is a black man. That's unfair to Coach Strong and many black coaches who work their ass off every single day to be subjected to that sort of criticism.

Forde-Yard Dash: Coaches in a dream situation living a nightmare

Charlie Strong (5), Texas. After giving up 50 points to California – and 47 to Notre Dame in the opener – the head coach with a defensive pedigree said Monday that “each coach will be evaluated†during the Longhorns’ bye week. Last year in September, Strong demoted offensive coordinator Shawn Watson. This year it’s the defensive staff’s fault. Eventually, Strong will run out of fall guys. Consider the greater schedule context as well: the stirring victory over the Fighting Irish was diminished by Notre Dame’s home loss to Michigan State; and Cal already had lost this year to San Diego State. An extremely soft Big 12 might be Strong’s saving grace.

Is anyone else concerned one of the contributing issues to the poor defense is the change in practice style? Running a ton of plays without stopping to make corrections and then reviewing film.

With all due respect, Charlie Strong is one of the last individuals I would turn to for an evaluation of a coordinator or a position coach. Charlie is atrocious at evaluating coaches.
Which is a VERY bad weakness to have as a head coach.

I agree that it is ULTIMATELY not Bedford's fault.

Thought this was probably the most interesting part of that article.

But if you have people blowing coverage after coverage and playing slow, hesitant and confused then you are either doing a poor job of communicating your defensive concepts or you’re dealing with a crew of card-carrying morons. Since the second isn’t fixable you sure hope you’re dealing with the first - but if the first isn’t sorted out posthaste this squad is looking at real trouble that won’t confine itself to just this season.
Both times Robinson has come here and repaired badly broken defenses, he said what he did was simplify things and let great athletes fly around and make plays.... It certainly looks like this type of concept would help here.

You are just as out of line with your Donald Trump comment as UT1983 was with his PC comment.

Who's the defensive backs coach?  I haven't heard any blame tossed his way?  Why is that? Also, I don't think Charlie's issue so much is not being able to manage or evaluate coaching talent.  Because honestly, Watson, Wickline, Bedford are all good coaches.  I think Charlie's biggest "issue" regarding his coaches, is loyalty. Is it time to fire your secondary and defensive backs coaches? Not at all...calm down guys, it's just loss. But I do hope Charlie will learn from keeping Watson too long and if it's necessary, when the time, won't hesitate to pull the trigger...

Who's the defensive backs coach?
Bedford is listed as "Defensive Coordinator / Secondary" coach, Clay Jennings is listed as "Defensive Backs" coach.

Chris,

I don't want to derail this topic by going into a deep political discussion but I feel I shouldn't let your calling me a racist go unnoticed.

Do I think Coach Strong was hired solely because he is black?  No.  Coach Strong obviously has coaching experience and had enough success to get noticed by UT as a possible replacement for Coach Brown.  He appears to be a man of character and there are things I like about him.

Do I think certain members of UT's hierarchy looked as Coach Strong as a black man whose hiring would been seen as a politically correct hire?  Absolutely!  Tell me, what is more racist than to have Coach Strong touted as the first black head football coach at UT instead of treating him like any other coach and simply focus on his record and accomplishments?  And yet we heard plenty of that at the time of his hire.

This is the same UT that thinks taking down the Jefferson Davis statute and removing the Civil War plaques on the Littlefield Fountain is a wonderful thing and somehow changes our history.  All the while leaving a statue of George Washington up (a man that actually owned slaves).  It also supports in state tuition for illegal immigrants and the right to look at a person's skin pigmentation as opposed to their qualifications to be eligible to enroll into UT (that isn't racist?).  All for the sake of political correctness.

I thought this was a forum whereby we are free to voice our opinions and have others respond (ideally without the name calling).  In typical liberal behavior, you are tolerant of those that agree with your thoughts but you call others names that you disagree with.  So much for acceptance of all unless they don't believe the way you do.

For the record, I think judging a person by their skin pigmentation is stupid.  Just as I think a person's skin pigmentation or genitalia doesn't qualify them for President.

I said my peace.  Let's get back on to football.

Thank you for the predictable race card.... we don't get enough of that today.

Now, I agree with you that the idea CS was hired to satisfy some kind of self-validating PC agenda is ridiculous.  Coach Strong built an incredible record - not only as a head coach as you pointed out, but also as a coordinator and position coach.  He was certainly qualified to get the shot that he did.

On the other hand, how CS is being treated right now smells like a those who wield authority are scared to death to be branded a racist - as people like you are so self righteously ready to do.  The past two seasons we have suffered through performances on both offense and defense that are historically bad; and not a hint of a hot seat from anyone?  The President of the University and the AD get on a plane with the Head Coach to woo the Offensive Coordinator away from Tulsa?  Is this the kind of treatment that any other coach you can remember receives?  Two for two in losing seasons; one coordinator gone the other perhaps on his last leg.... At least I think we should be able to admit that none of us has seen this kind of futility without a hint that a coaching change might be in the works?
