*****Texas vs. Cal Game Thread*****

Our secondary looked completely lost all game. I don't know if the scheme is too complex from these kids, but there was a lot of finger pointing after TDs and big plays. No excuses, Charlie is a defensive minded coach. I understand our offense struggling before sterlin, but the defense should never be this horrible.

I'll say this they should NOT have any business losing that game. Every opportunity f"""Ked over and the defense got there asses handed to them

Nor does Saban = Strong.
It was my attempt to incite a defend Charlie strong argument. But to be honest, I've had a bad feeling about this game all week. 9 PM start and first away game for a lot of our young guys. Maybe the lights were just a little to bright for our guys tonight.

Its simple this team is improved.  Last year under Watson this would have been 50-7 loss.  Our defense was good one year.  Strong first year with players like Malcom Brown, Hassan Ridgeway, Hicks, etc.   Ever since then its been a revamping and retooling.  The talent issue is not an issue anymore maybe inexperience since some of our best players are sophomores.  No excuse though.  The ND game we were just as bad defensively.

Im not a fan of the Texas Tech teams.  The ones content with giving up 60 points and just trying to score 80 points.  I truly hope we do not turn into one of those because so far thats what it looks like.

To be honest, I think this is just part of the game now. With everyone running a spread scheme it's hard to stop a team with a QB that can distribute the ball. Look at our team for example, things really didn't open up until Shane came into the fold.

I think pure defensive football is a thing of the past. With all the rule changes favoring the offense, high scoring games are inevitable in both the college and NFL level.

Um this game was in the 40s last year with the #1 overall pick last year. Jerrod Heard was the anointed one until teams figured him out.

The system they run has a lot to do with it. It makes mediocre QBs look really good. But Webb is no slouch, he should get drafted next year.

We abandoned the run there in the 4th. Not sure why. I thought the Foreman run would show that we could take it to the house on any given play.

Shane Buechele was not the same after the big hit he took. He looked starry eyed there for a while and just didn't seem to have his mojo after that hit. Not sur if that carries over or if it was just the side effects of the hit.

Too many drops by the WRs.

We didn't look like we wanted it there late. We looked defeated and helpless.

Defensively, that was what we've seen before way too many times. If there's a get rid of Bedford thing going, I'm in. He's convinced me.

Hager is a fire plug that needs to be on the field. When he is, we make plays. Its that simple.

Suddenly, I'm worried about our CBs. Didn't think I'd feel that way this year. Here I am, worried about our CBs. The whole secondary looked lost too many times tonight.

Brandon Jones is a playmaker. He finds a way. Maybe its time to see him at safety?

What do I know? I thought we'd win by 35+ pts.

"What do I know? I thought we'd win by 35+ pts."

And shame on me for believing you. 😉 But after the California Hawaii game I did try to warn people that Webb was damn good.

I think we will have our ups and downs this year. But I'm relieved our offense can now keep us in ball games. I never thought we would go undefeated, but I still think we win the big 12 this year. I'm just glad we look like we took a step forward instead of staying stagnant or even regressing these past few years. We're a young team and tonight we played like one. Inconsistency will come with youth.

Texas scores 12 more points against Cal than mighty Hawaii.

And gave up more to Cal than Hawaii if you count the last TD.

The same Hawaii who lost 63-3 to Michigan.
