A TCU site reported Thompson would be visiting Fort Worth this weekend. I checked with sources near Josh, and they confirmed Thompson would be taking an official. At this time we were told it's nothing to worry about, but we will monitor the situation.

If he visits, it is a worry.

Another visit we knew about but wanted to mention is that Kobe Boyce will be on official to OU this weekend. same type of thing as Thompson, we were told that it's nothing to worry about. We will monitor.

The likelihood is that OU gets the snot beaten out of them this weekend so that can't be too exciting to see.  And the atmosphere at TCU to see them against a lowly ISU team while hearing the standard serving of UT hate talk will probably be such a contrast to what Boyce has gotten at Texas.......Meh, boyz enjoying their available OVs.

Strong encourages visits.

Inside Texas said that Thompson discussed his visits with the Texas staff. Strong probably told him to go ahead and enjoy the process.

Players taking visits to other schools will happen under Strong. He's not like Briles/Patterson in regards to trying to prevent players from visiting other schools. Matter of fact, Strong encourages players to take visits to make sure they want to play at Texas.

Not entirely true. He encourages before they're committed. Several such as Higs have said that Strong will pull an offer.

If a player has no doubts about his commitment I don't think he'll be visiting other schools, regardless of getting an OK from Strong.

He will pull an offer if you aren't upfront with the staff like Thompson. If you tell the staff you are going to take visits, I don't think the staff cares one bit.

I can't speak for others, but if I was a 18 year old kid I would be taking free visits every weekend. Even if I was committed to another school.

That's just how recruiting works now. Kids are going to visit other places.

This is also why Strong's recruiting strategy is perfect. Strong doesn't try to fight the system, he lets kids visit. He knows the real recruiting doesn't start until December and January to begin with.

Briles/Patterson's strategy of telling recruits and commits to not visit Texas has not only been ineffective but has helped Texas land recruits these past 2 to 3 cycles.

When a kid commits and it fills your need at the position, you stop recruiting the position.

When a kid start taking OVs to other schools even when its up front, you start recruiting that position again.

Recruiting works how we let it work. If kids don't understand the definition of "commitment" there's probably a couple of adults in their lives who've never explained it to them.

We too often accept change that is created in error without realizing it just leads to more errors, whether we learn to deal with them or not along the way. Rant over.

I know some will worry about this visit, but I'm not going to panic with it coming so early and Texas will have plenty of time to combat anything that comes of it. I also think Texas has some advantages in their corner to help with this.

If we keep winning recruiting will take care of itself. Many recruits have said they want to see how we do before they pull the trigger. I think allot good players are right there but they want to see results. Bottom line.....be competitive and keep winning...

Yep. I would have visited Hawaii, Miami, UCLA (think girls) and Baton Rouge (this one just the party atmosphere) before committing to Texas.
