*****Texas vs. UTEP Game Thread*****

Cal defense getting manhandled by sdsu. Only worry I've got, is the kick isn't until 930. How sluggish will the guys be starting that late? Don't want to see any flashbacks of the BYU game after that long weather delay.

Would someone please kill whoever thought that animated Bevo 15 cartoon was anything better than junior high stuff?
I know. They need to play it more often too. They have almost given the network over to it. Also I didn't think Perrin would ever go away last night.

perrin went away??!  how come somebody didn't tell me??

the throw last night that reminded me of the jet-ski vid this summer was the one to dorian.  no telling how many takes it took to get that beautiful lake vid.  wouldn't surprise me if all balls were wet by the time it was perfection.  regardless, though, recall how much arm he had left to make that throw.  last night i could really see that arm in that kid.  he's a lot better than i thought he was, and i was already sold on him, of course.

Not sure about blong. I think it showed excitement about the prospects for the season. I'm excited about the possibilities, aren't you?

Hook 'em!

Good stuff! It was fun seeing the young guys get after it tonight. roach is going to be special
Yea, Roach is showing up a little more each game.  Such quickness.  Will be exciting to see how much he continues to make plays.  And we haven't even seen Fowler yet.

More good stuff from this young team, slow start, smash mouth finish!

Had it not been for the Petey fumble, it would have never looked close.  But it damn sure never felt close.  So, the D gave up one big run for a TD, meh...Total, UTEP amassed 160 yards in the first half, 51 on one play in 8 possessions or 32 plays.  Not too shabby.  Then it was time to play the babies.......Second half Defense never let up, 73 yards on 29 plays with freshmen and backups, all over the field.

Well played youngsters!  Glad they rested some key personnel.

OL will be the Achilles of this squad, not enough quality/developed depth.  We need Williams in a bad way!

oh, absolutely.  you gotta love what's going on.  through the summer i toyed with the idea of this fast a start, but i kept making my feet touch the ground.  that we'd get to this level of play sometime this season was totally in my viewfinder, but how quickly things come together is always a big question.

it's not just shane or sterlin or any one major upgrade.  or the added effectiveness of ty's complement.  it's all over the field.  the defense is still fits and starts, but when it clicks it's showing promise, too.  like it's still clearing its throat.  i loved that image late in the game sat when at least 6 true frosh were manning the d.  the entire line was trues and shark at olb and jones in the secondary.  they didn't force a 3-n-out, but they did force a punt.  that was effective defense using a bunch of guys who are still finding their way around campus.

similarly, the special teams look to be growing in effectiveness and attitude.  we've got some great kickers and the corners are getting knocked off for the rest of the units.  also, i read last eve that chris naggar is on the team though his name isn't on the site roster yet.  hope that's true.  he brings exciting possibilities, especially for long fg attempts.

we're a work-in-progress and will be most or all of this season.  i'm convinced saturday was all about building depth.  finding who can be relied on and who cannot.  if a kid can play this staff will find him.

i feel like i'm watching bride of frankenstein here.  it's alive!!  it's a-liiiiiive!!!
